Special Collateral Loan for Printing Press

My wife is a printmaker. Simplified version, she engraves a block of wood, inks it, and runs through a press to make the print. She is in need of a press.

She previously owned a Conrad Machine etching press and this is our most likely choice for the new press as well. Takach is another manufacturer, but usually much more expensive. Plus, I've personally spoken with the owner of Conrad Machines and he was most helpful on the previous purchase (which we sold at 2 years old for around 75% of what we paid and could have gotten a lot more if not in a hurry to sell at the time - IOW, they have a high resale value).

Last time we paid cash. While I like that route, I also like the flexibility that financing such a large purchase offers since the final purchase price will be between $5-10k depending on just which press and options she opts for this time.

I know most lenders will have little knowledge of the market for the product but a number of lenders will make special collateral loans at decent terms for boats, RV's, and the like.

My question is: Does anyone have any ideas for lenders that might have loans for such items, either as a niche product or general collateral loan? I was hoping for a lower rate than a personal unsecured loan and even though we'll likely pay it off withing 6 months I want to avoid putting it on a cc, though that's not out of the question if I find the right card. We may also use it as a way to build her credit file a little more.

Thanks in advance.

If its inthe $5K to  $10K range I would take the biz financials and 3 years tax returns to the loan offcer of my bank.  This is not a huge purchase and will probably be score driven and secured by the printing press.    This borders almost on personal loan. My bank offers an open line of biz credit for upto $25K unsecured

Thanks for the response. We don't own a business and this press is for fine art and not mass production or business purposes.  I should have probably made that clear since most people don't think fine art when I bring it up.

They still may do personal loan.  Penfed and many others like my local bank offer personal loans 60 months at 9.9% APR or less   score driven

Re: Special Collateral Loan for Printing Press

My bank offers a similar credit line as low as 9.99%. Was hoping to get closer to 5-6% or as close as possible.

ETA: I'm difficult to please. 😁

This sounds like a good plan.  Find a card with a 0% intro offer for the first 12 months.  Put the purchase on that and pay it off over your planned timeline of 6-7 months..

Does the company take credit card payments? As CGin D pointed out there are many  credit cards that offer 0% for 12 months some even longer.

I'm thinking about an intro cc 0% and putting it on that. After the house I plan on apping  for NFCU, and maybe discover, chase FU, or citi D.C. Discover prequals me at 13-16%  so I figure that's a solid. Chase has nothing. Citi prequals for D.C.  May depend on the limits/utilization.

A 3 point range for Discover is a good sign.  You can get 12 months 0% from then as one of the offers.  There is a post on Discover.  It is a very good card.

Re: Special Collateral Loan for Printing Press

I actually got an invitation in the mail from yesterday that I just found for Discover IT with 0% for 14 months. The only question then is the SL, assuming they still want me.

Still not a bad idea to have a backup plan or to think about building the wife's credit portfolio. May speak with NFCU once house closes to see if they might be able to do something.
