You could intentionally get a AU card with a spending limit....(Costco Visa and Amex come to mind)
Other trick would be use a virtual card number such as Citi still offers....
Also id talk to your primary bank and a CU if they have any suggestions.......

I like the idea of using a Visa gift card. Simply fund the card with a few bucks more than you need for the purchase. This way you can't get hit with any unexpected charges. I use this method for my $1 CCT trials and it works like a charm.
Also, I'm not sure if this is possible, but perhaps you could contact your CCC and let them know that you're going to have a purchase coming through from X vender for Y amount and see if there's any sort of security they can implement that would prevent a second transaction from X vender or one that would prevent Y amount from being exceeded.
Same here, I'd also recommend a prepaid or gift card since you can control how much money is in there. The few bucks in fees should be cheaper than the time spent asking around, applying, waiting... Maybe even getting HPed for nothing. Even a debit card for an idle checking account if you can make sure your bank won't approve with overdrafts.
The vendor requires a card on file, so cash/checks aren't an option.
Thanks everyone. The gift card was an especially good idea. I found a debit card for a dormant checking account where I maintain a very low balance. The card is a year old and I never activated it.
Called the bank, activated the card and had overdraft protection removed. Any charges in excess of funds I add to the checking account will be declined.
Capital One Secured. $49 for a $200 limit. Even if you get a CLI it'll be stuck at $500 for years.
BOA still lets you do the virtual credit card numbers where you set your own limit. I use that for things that want to do automatic renewal payments like USPS because I have trust issues.
I think you should apply for a BoA card, they have a feature called ShopSafe that allows you to generate a virtual card along with a preset spending limit. Sounds like the perfect match for what you're looking for. Best part is you can keep whatever original limit is on the card and just generate a low limit virtual card.
Exactly what I was talking about.
You can also set it to expire within 2 months or cancel the number whenever you want so you can't be double charged for something you cancelled.
10k limit on your reports and a $20 limit for your enemy.
