TransUnion

I have just recently tried getting a surgery loan but they said I would need a co-signer. I asked why and they said because TransUnion shows that you have no credit. TransUnion is the only credit bureau they use. I tried pulling my credit report with TransUnion and sure enough I have no credit history with them. I was able to pulled my credit with Equifax and it showed that Experian showed my credit history but not TransUnion. I called TransUnion they told me that not all creditors report to the 3 credit bureaus and that I needed to contacted my creditors. That just sounded funny to me. I talked to another person at TransUnion and at first she was unable to find any credit history but finally some how she did. She couldn't give me a credit score but I could go back on their website and get it that way. She also said they the loan company shouldn't have any problems pulling my credit. I asked for a direct number that I could call her back if I had any problems and she said she didn't have one. So I tried again and I got the same thing no credit history. I have talked to a few people at TransUnion and still get no answer on how the other 2 bureaus can show I have 13 years worth of credit but they don't. Where do I go from here and can anything be done?

Re: TransUnion

How many accounts do you have open right now (CCs, loans, mortgages, etc.)?

While it is true not all creditors report to each CR, in the past 10-13 years, I'm sure there was at least one. Bad accounts will only stay on for 7 years and go accounts can stay on for 10 yrs. So, unless you opened these accounts and closed them inside of 3 yrs, you should have something reporting.

I'm thinking you may have a split file. How many accounts do you have listed on EX or EQ?

I'd do a couple things. First, ignore TU's advice. Also, do not ask for the score from TU. Aside of not having one, the score provided by TU is a FAKO score and is worthless to you (and a waste of $$$). The only TU score that matters if a FICO score and that is found here, via myFICO. However, do spend any money for it. The score is calculated based on what is on your CR and nothing is there, so you'd need to get that fixed.

I would consider subscribing to TrueCredit.com (offered by TU). That will show you all three reports, side-by-side, and will allow you to see what is going on. Ignore the provided scores, though and ignore the advice. Anyway, there is a link that says "Dispute", but don't dispute. If you click that, and provide your user name and password, you'll have free pulls for your TU report, rather than paying $10 a pop.

So now you can monitor a lot easier. Answer the questions above, and someone here can follow up.

Re: TransUnion

I have one installment account open with Ford Credit for 4 years now. I have 5 open revolving accounts. The oldest one goes back to 2001. I asked about a split file and she didn't know what I was talking about. On TrueCredit they were unable to verify my identity.

My Ford account that was opened in 2001 does not report to TU. EQ and EX only.

I would call your creditors of the revolving accounts and ask them if they report to all three CRA or not.

If you only have 6 accounts, you shouldn't have a split file because of too many accounts and you shouldn't have one for too many inquiries, as from your post I can assume that you/your creditors haven't accessed TU much, seeing as you've never had this problem before.

I would call TU again and ask to speak with a supervisor. If that don't work, send them a letter along with proper identification and maybe they can provide an answer then.

Re: TransUnion

Right, a split file is typically caused by multiple TLs and multiple inquiries, esp. soft pulls from pulling from sites like TC. Had to ask the question though.

But something else is going on if you couldn't pull from TC. Were you able to order a TU report at all? If your ID could be verified via TU, then TC shouldn't have been a problem.

Also, are those accounts you mentioned all on EQ and EX?

Re: TransUnion

Go back over the demographics section on whatever you have from TU with a magnifying glass. Especially check addresses, name spellings, etc.

I find it awfully hard to believe that all those revolving accounts are reporting only to EQ and EX. More likely, TU has something wrong with your identifications, and you're not able to access the info that's there somewhere.
