Updated Judgement . . .

Hello,

Need advice --- I have a judgement (6153.00), which was filed 10/03/03.  It was filed through General Sessions and reported by General Sessions to only one CB (Exp.)  No activity has been reported since 10/3/03.  I having been paying the Attn. for over a year now, which means the balance is lower.  I realize the Attn.  can choose to report the judgement to all three CB's.  Thus far, I have been blessed not to have that challenge.  I would like to dispute based on the incorrect balance, with the hope that this would increase my score when they make the balance correction, but I fear the new activity would hurt my score and delay the SOL.

What would the experts suggest.  I have a good relationship w/the Attn.'s office, but realize they are Attn.'s
  • Should I continue to pay and leave the reported balance of 6153.00
  • Add a statement
  • Negotiate a settlement or what

By the way, over the last year my scores are increasing . . . slowly.

Re: Updated Judgement . . .

The balance doesn't update in your report. It is just supposed to show the amount of the judgement. It will say 6153 until it drops off.

The attorney i paid for my judgement settled for 80% upfront instead of payments over time. And that was negotiated in the parking lot on the way back to our cars! Smiley Happy

The only thing I would do in your situation is negotiate a full payment for a lower amount.

Re: Updated Judgement . . .

I am not 100% certain, but do not believe the amount of the judgment is what affects scores, it is the judgment itself. Same as with collections. The presence of it is doing the damage and I think a collection or judgment for $50 would hurt scores the same as a $5000 collection or judgment.
