Vantage 3.0 vs FICO 9

Is there a difference between vantage 3.0 and FICO 9. Where can I see my vantage score for Experian? Seems its difficult to obtain these scores.

I believe True Credit (TU) provides Vantage score.  You can get FICO 9 here.

Re: Vantage 3.0 vs FICO 9

There is certainly a difference between V3 and FICO 9.  They are made by completely different companies and are likely to give very different results for most people.

Experian V3 can be obtained for free at credit.com.

myFICO gives FICO 9 for all three bureaus, though if you want it updated every month it gets expensive ($40 per month).  Wells Fargo gives a free monthly FICO 9 (Experian) by opening a savings account.  There are likely other sources of free FICO 9s, but I can't remember them.

Re: Vantage 3.0 vs FICO 9

Thanks! All these models make my head spin. Using FICO 9 and vantage all my scores are at 800 range. FICO 8 all the same with exception of Experian which is 752 due to a paid medical collection. Aggravating not knowing what lenders actually use. I'm looking to get loan from Alliant credit union not sure which model they use.

Re: Vantage 3.0 vs FICO 9

Almost no lenders or CC issuers use Vantage.

Have you considered giving Alliant a call, asking to speak with a loan officer, indicating the specific loan product you are interested in, and then asking which bureau and model they use?

Re: Vantage 3.0 vs FICO 9

My Vantage scores and my FICO 9's do tend to run close to each other. My FICO 8's are very different from those, though. Could just be coincidence.

That's interesting, if you monitor your score and report directly through trans Union the base it on Vantage. Would seem to be wasting consumers money if what they give you doesn't apply. Might contact them.

Re: Vantage 3.0 vs FICO 9

Many banks offer free Vantage scores.  That's because it costs them very little to do that.  But almost none of the banks who are giving you that free V3 actually use it in making decisions about prospective borrowers or CC users.  They use either some flavor of FICO or perhaps a home grown internal system (Chase does that, for example).

This same rule applies even when a bank offers a free FICO score.  Just because a bank or CC issuer offers you a free EX FICO 8 Classic, for example, that doesn't mean necessarily that they will use EX when they make decisions about an applicant, nor that they will necessarily use FICO 8 Classic.

If you do decide to give them a call, do that during the week (M-F) and before 4 pm Eastern time.  Ask specifically for a loan officer.  The general customer service rep will be far less likely to give you accurate information than would an LO.

It's completely possible for a FICO 9 score to deviate 100 points or more from a Vantage Score.

You can get FICO 9 EQ scores from PENFED. Personally my Fako and FICO 9 EQ are +/- 50 points differant, FICO being the higher
