Wamu and my Chex report

I've got a (perhaps) unusual question, hopefully it makes sense to you all.

My Chex report is clean, no overdrafted accounts or whatever. I tried to open a wamu checking+savings account online (for the 3.75% rate!). I had some problems funding the account so I had to go through the application several times, but eventually the system blocked my social security number as a fraud prevention measure.

I got concerned that each time I went through the ID verification they may be pulling a chexsystems report, so I got my free one in the mail. There were 3 inquiries from wamu on it (and 1 from a Citibank CD I opened in Dec)- I've heard of people getting denied based on chex records, but like credit reports, would too many inquiries be a problem? Also, is there a way to dispute these if they are all from a 10 minute time period and get them consolidated into one, or would Chex/Wamu say it's correct?

Also what's interesting is there is no record of me opening my accounts with BOA, Chase, local CU, or USAA (all in the past 18 months). I'm surprised that none of these institutions pull Chex... am I missing something?

Re: Wamu and my Chex report

I would call Wamu and explain everything to them and see what they can do.

I don't know if ChexSystems de-dup inquiries or not.

I don't think you would declined due to the inquiries.

Re: Wamu and my Chex report

Well I called wamu and they transferred me throughout their phone tree and the only answer I got was "let me give you the chexsystems phone number"

Now... it's not that I NEED another checking account, but I just want my report to be clear of the duplicates if I ever wanted something in the future... as long as they don't decline based on # of inqs like a credit card would, then I may not even bother. Thanks!

Re: Wamu and my Chex report

I wouldn't think inquiries would count against you with Chex, just because their rubric is different. Shopping around at banks isn't a sign you're looking for credit and likely to default. I could be wrong, but I don't think you've got anything to worry about.
