What happens during a dispute

I searched and searched but didn't find the answer.  What happens during a dispute?  I am disputing a utility late (was late but not to the degree TU is showing.  Actual late according to utility = 1 90 day late in 2005.  Showign is NINE 120 day lates ... :ct faints:
In an effort to get my report clean for potential mortgage, I'm obviously disputing this.

I logged teh dispute with TU yesterday.  Will that line go away during the dispute?  Show as "in dispute" ... and most importantly, when this updates teh accurate info, what kind of points jump can I reasonably expect?

This is the last inaccurate info on my report currently.  YAY!!  It will feel so nice to have a clean report!!

Re: What happens during a dispute

Lates payments hurt the first 2 years. You might not see a jump in scores BUT if the OC verifies  you might see your scores drop a few points as any update brings it to the attention of FICO.

They might also just delete.

OMG, if my score decreases, I'll just cry.  How could 9 120 lates replaced by 1 90 late make it go down?  Isnt' the cumulative effect quite positive (8 less mega baddies?).

All I know is that this process (credit repair) is NOT for the faint of heart!!

What happens is the account updates to the current or verified date. That, in effect, brings the pain forward and current. I have some erroneous utility company tardies too, that I will not dispute unless my very life depended on it.

Oh lordy. I guess I should get the tissues ready cause it sounds like I'll be weeping when this updates.  I'm sending tons of carma into the universe that they just delete it instead.

So if its last reported this month but the thing they're reporting is 2 yrs old, it still makes the pain current?  Somehow, its just not making sense to me.
