What in the world?

Sorry, I'm new to this board so i'm hoping that i'm posting in the right forum.  I just checked my credit scores, and they are horrible.  TU - 582 and EQ - 572.  I only have three accounts with balances; all totaling 1300 which I am going to pay off this month.

Two questions.  1 - I have an account with CapitalOne that was paid off in December 2008; however, my credit report shows that I still owe a balance of $33.00, and I am 120 days past due.  I knew this wasn't right so I contacted CapitalOne, who confirmed, that I have a balance of $0.00.  I asked why it was showing on my credit report and I was told that it hadn't been updated.  Well, hello!!!  It is showing that I'm 120 days past due but no one could answer this for me.  What steps can I take to get this corrected b/c of course it is effecting my credit score.

2.  Once I pay my bills off in full and hopefully get CapitalOne corrected, how long does it take for your credit score to go back up?

Thanks a lot!

Welcome aboard, nisssagirl!

Are you saying that your account was never delinquent with Cap1, and that they are erroneously reporting the lates?

Re: What in the world?

Thanks!

Yes, my account has been paid off with them since I believe Nov or Dec 08 but when I looked at my credit report, it shows that I'm three months behind.  I called CapitalOne and was told that I don't have a balance so they weren't sure why it was showing on my credit report past due.

Re: What in the world?

Hi nisssagirl,

The 120 day late is a major derog and likely the reason your scores are so low. The good news is that if this is corrected (removed) your scores will go up immediately (well--when CapOne updates). The following advice assumes that you are not late on this account and that this is an error on CapOnes part. The first thing I would do is to call back CapOne. If they agree that you are not late ask them to correct this with the CRAs. If they will not ask to speak to a supervisor and instruct him/her to correct their mistake. If this still does not work I would dispute the late with each CRA and see what happens. Conversely you can keep trying to call CapOne until you get a CSR who can/will help you.

Good Luck.

Cheers

The moment your CR is updated your scores would be effectively updated too.  The actual situation is there isn't a score at all until you or a creditor pulls.  That score is a "real time" snap shot of your CR at that moment.  So, whenever your CR is updated, any pull from that time forward will have a reflected score change.

Re: What in the world?

Anytime you see on your credit reports an account is showing pastdue and you have a $0 balance, don't ask why its showing past due.  Tell them to change the status to Paid As Agreed.  That all that matters. You don't want them to have to research why its being reporting as such. Just have them get it corrected immediately.

Your score will change soon as the credit report is updated.

Re: What in the world?

Thanks everyone for your answers!  AFter two days, I finally found someone who could help me.  Just like I thought, my credit card had been paid off for over a year; however, I have moved since then and CapitalOne automatically enrolled me in some type of program and charged me a fee.  Hence, they didn't have my new address (which I'm not sure why it wasn't forwarded) so they reported this amount as being delinquent.  WOW, it was actually over 120 days past due.  My account was updated in July of this year, and that amount was removed.  I was told that my credit report should be corrected within the next month and the debt would be removed from my account.  I was also told that if I needed to make a purchase soon, and the debt still showed on the report, they would fax over a letter stating that it would be removed.

Hopefully this is true. ?.

Re: What in the world?

Good job!  It takes less than 5 minutes for creditors to submit the changes through eOscar.  Once that is done, Experian  usually update its info the same day.  TU and EQ about 5 days later.
