What protections and recourse do I have?

What are my options when my card payments are rejected? They are rejected because the middleman of the cobranded card rejects them. The backing bank does not.

The bank knows who's at fault (the cobranded middleman I have to go through) and we attempted to pay directly over the phone with fee waived. If this last attempt does not go through, I have the intention to NEVER PAY ONE CENT. The middleman has the correct balance, but is periodically losing a transaction. All payments comeback "there is a problem with your account" but middleman can't see or find it or half of my payment attempts. Which is funny, because I can see them just fine on their site.

To be clear, I do have the funds. I have tried two different banks and this will be my fourth recorded attempt. This is in addition to a few other tries that might not be recorded. I am done trying.

So, of course, I need to know what options or recourse I might have, if any, to protect myself from the negatives. Thank you.

Trashing your credit over this isn't worth it.

Send them a check or a money order. Get it paid off and stop doing business with them.

Re: What protections and recourse do I have?

The failure of a middleman, whatever that may mean, to pay your debt to the bank does not change your obligation to the bank. As such, your recourses are:

1. Fix the problem with the middleman so it's paying the bank correctly and in a timely manner, or

2. Pay the bank directly and ditch the middleman or find a different one to use.

It's not the bank's responsibility to hunt down payment problems with middlemen - it's yours, unless the bank requires you to pay via this specific middleman. In all other cases, it falls back on you to ensure the money gets to its final destination.

Re: What protections and recourse do I have?

I thought that would be the case, but does not hurt to ask.

The card will be closed regardless of how this ends up. I suppose it wont hurt to try a little more if this attempt fails either.

Thanks for the support, a little outside unbiased reason is always a good thing.

Re: What protections and recourse do I have?

Are we talking about paying off a Synchrony Walmart card in-store or something? Not sure what other type of cobrand partner could be a middleman that interferes with payments.
