I had a medical bill from a while back for which I never received a bill. It was turned over to collections and I discovered it by pulling a CR back in 2006. I paid this, unaware at the time of "paying to delete." My question is when will this fall off of my CR. I'm posting info from my TU and EQ CRs.
Thanks!

Medical collections fall off from the DOFD which should be the same as the date of service.
Hi guiness.
I'm confused here. (Yes it happens alot!!!) How can the DOFD be the same as the date of service? Is this particular to medical collections? On other types of loans the delinquencies may go for 120+ days before the account is charged off or goes to collections. Are medical collections looked at differently? I know I'm missing something here. Please enlighten me. ![]()

that's a good question...is it because the date of service is really the only time you were current on the account? since payments are usually due at time of service?
It is just something I learned on these forums. Also looking at bills from doctors that correspond to my daughters CR, the DOFD is the same as the date of service.
Since payment is normally due at the time of service and if you don't pay, then that would be the day you were behind and never caught up.

DOFD and the day it is CO or goes to collections is not the same thing. First something is late and never caught up, which would be the DOFD. Then if you still don't catch up it will be CO'd or sent to collections.

Yes that's true but I guess what I meant to say is the date for drop off for CO's and collections is based on DOFD but normally the CO or collection doesn't begin until well after the DOFD. You are saying that for medical collections the DOFD for determining the 7.5 year drop off date begins much sooner. I'll need to remember that if it comes up in the future. Thanks for clearing it up.
I learned it here so I am going to say it is correct.![]()
Since the debt was due the day of service and it was never paid that would make it the DOFD.
