can I sue Equifax?

i have been unable to pull my equifax report or credit score for the past 6 weeks. Ive called every week and they always tell me someone will reach out by email to assist and never do. I know that not being able to get your credit report is a violation of my consumer rights . I already reported it to the CFPB but i was wondering if this is something i can pursue legally ?

Thansk for the input.

Re: can I sue Equifax?

Anyone can sue anyone for anything. It doesn't always mean you'll get anywhere.

However in your case, I think you have a good argument, so I'd consult with a lawyer.

Re: can I sue Equifax?

The 3 big credit reporting bureaus are required to give you a free credit report 1/year, or when you've been denied credit based on their reports. Has it been a year? They're under no obligation to provide a score.  If you're signed up for a paid service, that's dependent on the terms.

Where are you getting your reports from? Because if you just need to check your report, there are alternatives. You could get a free credit report from Equifax, or from AnnualCreditReport.com, or even from a third party like Credit Karma. You could also try the mail alternative: Experian has been saying there's a problem when I try to get my EX credit report online through ACR, but if I fill out the form, and drop it in the mail, they'll send me a paper copy. You could try that with EQ.

Re: can I sue Equifax?

@FireMedic1 @Anonymalous yah thats the main issue - i have been unable to pull equifax from anywhere - that includes the equifax site / annualcreditreport etc. (which is linked to the equifax site) - and as a result this in turn effects myfico becsue it cant pull the 3b with equifax data.  it constantly has me saying you need to call customer service which i do and like i said just been getting the run around for the past month - they tell me they will contact me via email 7 days they never do i call again get the same response and the cycle continues

Re: can I sue Equifax?

While Equifax Customer Service isnt the best...plenty of posts here about this....hiring an attorney and attempting to sue is likely not going to get you anywhere quickly other than cost you money in the process.  If you truly aren't getting anywhere with them, your first course of action would be to file a formal complaint with the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau.  Reason being, this will cause them to address and reply/respond/resolve/repair your issue.

Re: can I sue Equifax?

@mfinsmi1Your situation has Split File written all over it. Which EQ is famous for. Next call ask them if this is the case and what you need to send in to fix it. Been there done that.
