getting started and looking for advice

i have very limited credit history. nothing bad or unpaid at all. i also took out a secured loan with my bank just to build credit. the payment is automatically withdrawn monthly and has never been late or missed. i am trying to raise my score to buy a home and i recently had a lender tell me my credit score was 624 and to also open a revolving line of credit? now i know my chance of getting a secured card is better than an usecured card but is it also considered a revolving account? and does a secured card raise your score just as fastas an unsecured card? i noticed on here everyone has 3 scores. how do you check your own scores? and will checking them hurt my credit? also how often can i check them? i know i have a lot of questions and what ever you can answer will be appresciated, thank you!

You can check your Equifax and Trans Union "FICO" scores here at MyFico, dont bother checking them at any of the "Free Credit Score.com's" they are not your real scores, they are what we call "Fako" scores. The Fico score is what 99% of lenders use, so thats what you want to purchase.

Pulling your own reports will not hurt your score, when you pull your own score and report its known as a "Soft Inquiry" opposed to when a lender pulls your credit report and score, thats known as a "Hard Inquiry" which does hurt your score/s.

At the top of this page you'll see "Fico Scores and Credit Reports" click that tab and when the page loads, you'll see "Fico Standard" click on that, but before you purchase your TU or EQ Reports and Scores do a quick internet search for Fico Discount codes, so you can save a little money.

You can purchase just your TU report and score or just your EQ report and score or you can purchase both at the same time.

Once you purchase your reports here at MyFico you can view them for 30 days, but as far as how often you can purchase them, thats really up to you, some do it monthly, others quarterly and others annually.

The only Credit Report and Score you can not purchase is Experian as of I think Feb or March of 2009, you can purchase your Experian Score and Report from somewhere like FreeCreditReport.com, keep in mind the score FCR uses is a "Plus" score, its not a "Fico" score. But you can use FCR.com to monitor your EX credit report, but don't pay any attention to the score because most likely its not even close to your real score.

I use FCR.com to monitor my EX credit report not so much my score, its like 14.99 a month. And I use MyFico to purchace my TU and EQ reports bi-monthly.

Hope this helps Smiley Happy
