I got a collection letter about 10 days ago for few hundred dollars. Collection rep told me that it did not hit my credit yet and I confirmed that with all 3 credit agency reports. However, I don't want to be in a situation where I pay the collection and later the debt shows up in the credit reports few days/weeks later. Is there a form collection agency may sign stating that they did not, are not and will not send this to the credit agencies? I can also record my conversation with the rep's name and id to protect myself. What should I do?
Welcome @econberkeley What was the collection for? What date most importantly started this and who they collecting for?

You should get it in writing that if you pay it, they're not going to report it.
Then if you pay it and they do report it anyway, file a complaint against them with the CFPB.
What about negotiating the price with the rep and get it in writing that I have paid it off 100%. Would that work? Any risk with negotiating the price?
Again. Who is the collection agency and who are they collecting for? It might be a collection agency that deletes after settle/paid.

No that would not work. They can't lie.
