In my opinion it's the gold standard: it's the identical score you'll receive for your Equifax score on a mortgage tri-merge report.
That said, for credit card approvals it appears as though the various '08 scores may be more accurate anecdotally.
Put another way, when someone asks me what my FICO is I give them my EQ Beacon 5.0 (found here) rather than any other score, and I won't consider myself to have broken 700 (or 720 or 760 or any other random breakpoint) until that score moves past it.
