to remove a collection on my report?

I just found out this under my Accounts - Collections turned out to be a T-Mobile collection for $65

------------------------------------------------------
5/13/2007
New collection on debt by: BAY AREA CREDIT SERVICE
Reported: 4/1/2007
Show/Hide Details

In 1/1/2007, the collection agency BAY AREA CREDIT SERVICE was hired by creditor Not Reported to collect $65 in debts on account number XXXXXXXX.

Original balance: $65
Agency number: 163YC00665
Agency name: BAY AREA CREDIT SERVICE
Current balance: $0
Status (as of 4/1/2007) : PAID
Agency industry: Not Reported
First delinquency: 4/1/2006
Last payment: 3/2007
Original creditor: 163YC00665
Description: Not Reported

Contact: BAY AREA CREDIT SERVICE, 2185 The Alameda Ste 1, San Jose, CA, 951261109

------------------------------------------------------

It seems to me that balance is paid, but I called the agency anyways to find out, they said its still in collection and it has not been paid yet; once I pay the $65 they will put it as zero balance. Is there any way to remove this completely from my credit report? The weird thing about this is I'm still using T-Mobile.

Re: to remove a collection on my report?

From what I gathered you have a collection from T-Mobile (and still have their service) from 2007. I would call T-Mobile and find out what is going on. It could very well be a mistake. If it is yours and it is paid ask them to pull it back from the CA. If it is yours and not paid ask for a PFD, but get it in writing.

Never speak to a CA, any contact is done in writing CMRRR.

In the event it is not yours at all, send a DV CMRRR to the CA.

I find it hard to believe T-Mobile would continue your service if you owed them money. I had them at one point and they will shut your phone off in a heartbeat for not paying.

Re: to remove a collection on my report?

T-Mobile told me they will submit a OC form (for disputes) saying this is paid off and account is cleared. What do I have to do on my side now to get this removed completely from my credit report?

Re: to remove a collection on my report?

You can ask OC to have CA remove it from CR. Not sure that the letter they are sending will do so.

Re: to remove a collection on my report?

what does OC stand for? I called again and this is what the rep told me, he said he'll submit the form therefore to put my account in good standing and cleared on tmobile side; however they can't tell the Credit Agency to remove it because the account is sold to them. He told me to contact all three credit bureau and have them remove it from my credit report. does this make sense to you guys? Is he right?

Re: to remove a collection on my report?

OC is original creditor (T-Mobile). Couple of questions. How long has it been paid? If it was paid before it went to collections, you can dispute it that way. Since it was sold to the CA (collection Agency) the CA owns it. You can do a goodwill to the CA and explain the circumstances and ask that it be removed. I would wait and see how your CR updates, as it is already showing paid.

Never mind I looked at your OP and found the answer. It was paid a year ago. Do you have any idea how something you currently have went to collections in the first place?

Re: to remove a collection on my report?

What I found out was, I opened this T-Mobile account for one of my friend, the bill sends to his house and he was responsible to pay for it. after a year, the contract ended he decided to open his own account and canceled this one, however he failed to pay the last monthly bill. but the bill has never been sent to me.

T-Mobile kept sending bills to his house but he moved away, so eventually this was sent to a CA, and it got transferred to a several CAs over times.

I also remember paying $65 at a tmobile store when I had to open another account later because my account was locked, and I did not know what the penalty was for.

Re: to remove a collection on my report?

Send the CA a DV letter. They have to validate the debt is yours or they can not collect , including reporting. Chances are they will delete the item. See if someone else has any other ideas.
