Willows,
I was 23 when I let my credit go to pot. I was in credit denial, mainly because it brought back bad memories (divorce).
I had nothing and did nothing for my credit, thinking it would just go away. Well, I am now 32, and I am cleaning up and battling things that I should have a long time ago.
Here is what ignoring has done for me:
1. Had to pay more for my car (interest rate on loan)
2. Had to pay higher deposits for utilities when I moved
3. Had to pay extra money to apartment complex for being a "bad risk"
4. Could not take my wife on a vacation last year, because I was denied a credit card (I know, should not pay with a CC for a vacation, but......).
5. Still cannot buy a house, because my scores are not quite there. (Also, all the extra money my bad credit has cost me over the years has taken away from my downpayment)
Honestly, he is not only affecting himself, but he is affecting your life also. I was stupid for letting my credit just sit there, and we (my wife and I) are paying the price 9 years later. I do not want to sound like I am preaching, but do not let him ignore this.
Hey, you are a woman, so use your guilt ability that God bestowed in women. Say something like "Why do you want to punish me and our future? Don't you love me?" Hey, that is basically what my wife did, and it worked! LOL
Good luck, and sorry for being so preachy.
