Curious...How many points should I expect when collection is deleted?

I talked to my loan officer today. He told me I should get at least 10 points from the deletion of an old collection account once rapid rescore is completed.

This sounds pretty low to me. I've read where others gained more than 30 points for the deletion of a derogatory account. The account is 3 year old and had a balance of almost 2k.

Shouldn't I gain more than 10 points? Thanks guys

Re: Curious...How many points should I expect when collection is deleted?

It depends on how many other baddies you have.  I recently got a medical collection removed and my score only gained about 7 points.  I have 1 other old paid CA still there that's stuck like glue.  If I could get THAT off too, it would probably bounce up quite a bit.  There are so many variables at play on any given credit report that it's impossible to establish an 'action x = result y' formula.

There is a wide range...I am still awaiting how much will it help us once ours are deleted.  I hope you get as much as possible!  Please let us know once it pots.

Re: Curious...How many points should I expect when collection is deleted?

Hi 206--

With the exception of some late pays on student loans in 2009, this is the only collection i have on my credit file. I submitted a good will letter what doctors statements to the student loan servicers. Don't know if this will help me get those lates updated but it was worth a shot.

All my other tradelines are in good standing and paid on time. Wow 7 points will put me where I want to be, but I would like a little more wiggle room if you know what i mean.

I would imagine that you'll see a reasonably significant bump if this CA is your only major baddie.  Lates from 2009 should have a very minimal impact on your score at this point.

That is pretty old, but a clean report is a good thing! Hard to anticipate an increase.
I had one deleted and got zip.

Life would be easy if we got 50 pts per deletion...Smiley Wink

Re: Curious...How many points should I expect when collection is deleted?

I really need my points back.

The idiots "jefferson capital" not only added this fraudelent account to my Credit report..they added a few "late payments " as if we had an agreement. I was sooo angry that I reported them to the BBB.

Now I need the 30 put drop I encountered back so my mortgage can go through. I will be so upset if I get zero for this Smiley Sad

If you have no other collections and some late payments that are 4 years old, you should definitely see an increase.  If you lost 30 points when it was added, all else being equal (which it never is), you should expect to see about 30 points when it comes off.
