AMEX PERSONAL LOANS @ 6.98% WORTH IT???

Hi Fico family,

Not sure if it's been discussed before but I logged in to my Amex profile today and saw a pop up saying Im pre approved for a personal loan up to 25K @ 6.98%. Anyone with experience with such an offer? Is that APR is the lowest I could get? Anyone got a much lower APR with Amex Personal Loans?

Please share your experience. Your opinion is greatly valued.

I believe that is the lowest APR they offer. I have one through them and several other members have one as well.

It was a SP. No POI required. From app to money in account was less than 24 hours. After you apply, just sign the loan documents that are sent to your email. It was the easiest thing I’ve ever applied for. Super fast and highly recommended.

That’s good to know! I will definitely take advantage of this offer then. Won’t probably keep it for too long. Will try and pay it off early! Amex freakin rocks with these offers!

Thx for your response!

I doubt you'll get *much* lower. I got 6% from Marcus, but that was 1 1/2 years ago when rates were a bit lower. I did get about 6.5% APR (1% origination fee and 5.89% interest rate) from Lending Club recently. When shopping for loans I've used the CK pre-qual tool to help find the best option.

Scores: March 21 FICO 8: EX 810, TU 808, EQ 813
AoOA: closed: 36 years, open: 25 years; AAoA: 11.8 years
Amex Gold, Amex Green, Amex Blue, Amex ED, Amex Delta Gold, Amex Hilton Surpass, BoA Platinum Plus, Chase Freedom Unlimited, Chase Amazon, Chase CSP, Chase United Explorer, Citi AA Plat, Sync Lowes, Sync JC Penney - total CL 145k
Loans: Chase car loan (35k/6yrs 0.9%)

How did you qualify with Marcus? Were you targeted or did you apply yourself. Did you get SP or HP? Im just curious since Marcus is part of Chase and I seriously doubt Chase would ever offer personal loans like Amex does. I'd say say the rates are pretty similar but it seems like the big difference between the two would be the ease of process. Apperently Amex SP and deposit money next day.

To touch up on what I wrote from earlier:

The app process

1)  Apply for your loan and select your terms and amount

2)  Sign the loan documents in your email.  This includes typing your full name, clicking on accept terms, and then clicking send.  Yes, 2 whole mouse clicks and your name.

3)  IIRC, I applied on a Sunday afternoon and woke up to an alert on my phone(Monday morning) that Amex deposited the money(18 hours).

Everyone else had a very similar experience.  I know AJC got one recently and I think UncleB was another.

Hopefully they may see this thread and share their experiences.

The only downside that I know now is you cannot access your personal loan through the app and this includes both IOS and Android.  You can access your loan through a mobile device but you'll need to log into the global site and skip the app.

If you like simplicity and a speedy process, do yourself a favor and go with Amex.  You won't regret it.

I went on the CK prequalify page and Marcus was the lowest interest rate option. It was an HP on TU. Marcus is part of Goldman Sachs rather than Chase. I don't remember the exact timing, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't more than a day or two and the money was deposited directly into my checking account.

Re: AMEX PERSONAL LOANS @ 6.98% WORTH IT???

Thanks for the correction! Marcus IS part of Goldman Sachs. I never used CK recommendations but I’d save myself a HP and go with Amex I think.

@Overmedicated And are there any prepayment penalties? Could they possibly be used similarly to the SSL technique?
