Hey guys, so I've been having this problem for 2 years now, pretty much I don't have access to the Amazon account anymore as I can't reset the password or anything but the account at Amazon is still active. I was hit the a recent recurring transaction. It's only $4 and some change. Usually Amazon subscriptions is 6 months but idk they didn't charge me the 6 months before but took 1 year to do another transaction. I did call chase, told them I don't want to dispute cause 1. It's a binding contract, not fraud or unauthorized charge although I don't want the product... 2. It's only a couple of bucks. My thing is when I was talking to the rep, I asked if you could cancel the subscription, he said no. It's between you and the merchant.
I read something about the token reset but idk I feel like he doesn't know what I was talking about. So he told me I could remove all cards from Amazon but I doubt it would stop the recurring charges. Idk what else to do. I think they will charge me until I die or until I close out the card completely. Has this happen to you guys before? Please help! 🙏
Have you tried calling Amazon??
yes that's the very first thing i did. they couldn't even help. now, i don't know what else to do anymore... im locked out of an account i have no access to.
I had a 16.99 Amazon charge that was recurring on my Discover card for 8 months before I could stop it. It required 3 new Dico numbers and many escalation till they stopped the recurring charges!
Some banks like Cap1 are easy as one call, but others are nearly impossible!
If Chase is not stopping the recurring charge, then you have to report the card lost/stolen and then demand all charges to be stopped. However recurring charges still could go through till fraud deportment completely stop all charges!
For some banks is absolute pain to remove a recurring charge
Good luck!

wow sorry to hear that... that's very unfortunate. just got off the phone with the fraud department, they said they can't cancel/stop the payment, told me to talk to amazon. i talked to amazon many times... i hear you. reporting lost/stolen wouldn't work either cause they still charge the new #. I was thinking once the card expires, then i doubt amazon would have access to the new account. but that's in 4 years... if i lost the card, they're going to keep extending the expiration. its only once a year, fudge it lol.

Many recurring charges dosen't even need expiration date unfortunately!
Best is to report it as lost/stolen and then escalate to make sure they would not allow anymore recurring charges! Also demand to get credit for any charges that would accrue after report.
I had Disco refund 7 months of charges.
I found it how crazy it is for a recurring charge to be this default to remove and yet you need to have multiple verification to buy anything over 500 🙄
I also had many fraud charges that classified as recurring, but it happened on Cap1 and they took care of it quick.
Here's the thing, how is it fraud if you legally subscribed to a service tho? I mean you authorized the transaction. I don't want to dispute it, I just want them to stop the payment. I could call the fraud department all day but they will tell me to dispute it tho. I'm just as confused with how the banks work with this type of stuff. I don't understand why they can't see a vendor and see if there's a recurring subscription and just cancel. I don't get why it has to be so difficult. Should I just walk into the branch and tell them to do it or its the same? Even if I did replace the card, they will still charge the new card regardless so it doesn't make sense to replace it lost/stolen.
Hey guys, I just contacted Visa and then they gave me another # to Chase Security team, but I think they're still CS reps so then they transferred me to disputes team, I told them I don't want to dispute but just stop the merchant from charging my account. They said we will send a letter to the merchant to stop authorize and to remove my card # on file from Amazon. But if they continue to charge it, then they said to contact chase again and dispute it. So hopefully this is good news!
if you contacted them and notified them you are cancelling and they continue to bill you, I call it fraud. If you report the card lost or stolen, I'm pretty sure they can't keep changing you. I had it happen, I had a fraud charge on my debit card, the bank issued a new card with a new number and I had to re up on prime. They can't charge a number they don't know. If Chase won't help wf and cap1 both have subs for checking accounts. Check the doc,

You'll have a new checking account every month!

I understand, but you can't cancel because you don't have access to the account to cancel. I wouldn't be posting this if I could cancel. However, if you cancelled, got a confirmation email/letter, and out of the blue they charge you for something idk how they would do or why they would do such a thing then and only then that's fraud... The bank gives the merchant the new updated info in secret so they will still charge you since you did do the authorization thru a subscription. I rarelydo bank bonuses, i know people do that every year not really interested in that though. I do it if I missed a bonus on a credit card lol.
