@Anonymous wrote:Curiousity question about NFCU........is it required to have a military association to get an account? If so, my FIL is retired Air Force. Would that qualify my DH so we could get an account there?
Yes that qualifies your DH to join. That's how I got in. My father was retired from the Navy.

My DW used to be in Military, Not anymore. When I called to ask a really nice rep told me that it would not be possible since She is not currently in. And also she asked if her Military ID was current, which was of course expired. She said if at least the ID was not expired, there was a chance.

Being retired is completely different then has served before. If you're retired you're still considered part of the military and carry a military ID. If Mimof4 DH's father is retired then her husband is eligible to join.
I clicked on "become a member" to see the qualifications and answered a few questions. We are eligible since he is a retiree and receiving retirement pay. I just need to ask him what his last 4 numbers of his SS are for "sponsorship". Here is the verbiage:

Congratulations! If you have grandparents, parents, a spouse, siblings, grandchildren or children who belong to one of those groups, you're eligible for membership with Navy Federal Credit Union.I hadn't even thought about something like this. I am not happy with the local credit union we belong to so I have been researching other options.
You should absolutely take advantage of the opportunity and join. NFCU is a fantastic credit union and I can't recommend it enough.

I have to say even with the stories i'd heard about how awesome they are. I was overwhelmed just how easy they make everything. They seem to be fairly HP happy though.
They pulled TU a second time for the CC as I discovered today.
I personally love how quick Alliant's Bill payments get sent to my payees. usually within a day. I'm very impressed.
I have accounts with SDFCU Alliant, DCU, UFCU and I think 13 local CUs. DCU would be the first I would close, Alliant and 2 of the locals would be the ones I would keep open if I were limited to 3. It depends on what you need them for though.

You'd need to specify more criteria. You can't just use "best" no matter what the topic without clarifying exactly what defines best for you.
In general terms best is going to be whichever one you qualify that offers the products you need/want. What are you specifically looking for? What are you eligible for?
+1 for Navy Federal CU. The process to join is very painless and they approved both my CashRewards and NavCheck (CLOC) within 24hrs of applying for them. Their site is a bit old fashioned in some respects but works very well (from what I can tell). Out of the credit unions I currently have: Navy, NASA, and People First (local one here in Lehigh Valley PA) I definitely would say Navy is probably the best. Having said this the local one gave me my first 5k+ credit limit starting out so they've been very nice and helpful too.
