Chase "CHANGE IN SERVICES"

The branch near me is removing tellers altogether. The handout says that "certain teller transactions will no longer be available, including drive-up and night deposit, if applicable, but nearby full-service branches are available to help you with: cashing checks, getting or depositing coins, making certain credit card or loan payments".

This is a lose-lose in my opinion. I'd rather speak with a teller and now they're getting laid off. Smiley Sad

I know me too. We had 2 local suntrusts bank completely tear down their building and then in the same parking lot  put an oversized drive up ATM😕No bank just a machine in the middle of a parking lot 😐

Not sure what will happen with the BBT merge, maybe build new buildings (like the ones you had weren't sufficient.)

Re: Chase "CHANGE IN SERVICES"

Welcome to the new world! Assume you have seen the new Capital One Bank re-vamp ads! Wells Fargo is closing hundreds of WF Branches over the next three plus years Two were in my area and more in larger Metro area in my state. US Bank announced they would close 300 to 450 branches in 2019-2020. In my reading around (have to believe everyone on this Forum has) that the younger generations are looking for Mobile and Online for most transactions. The old folks still write checks (one of which will be for their burial) so the old style banks are going the way of the Dinosaur (yes I have my grave site located at a Federal Veterans Cemetery which will be burial with my brothers in arms). Re: Chase "CHANGE IN SERVICES"

My local CU got rid of drive up window/tellers a few years ago, it's all ATM/Virtual teller now. While you can select either ATM or Teller, the teller is often from a different Branch somehwere else in  the State.

The funny thing is, that even though more and more people prefer Mobile. How well does that work when there's an issue?

Granted, I hardly ever go inside a Bank anymore either. But I like to know that if a problem does arrise, I can speak directly to a real person.

I also do not trust Finacial transactions on a mobile devise, Cyber/ID theft is already bad enough. At home in a secured setting fine, but outdoors on an unprotected network?  No thanks.

Everything is encrypted via SSL, if the bank isn't complete idiots (well and the user too I guess, if you go to Chase and see Chrome or similar warning you about a problem with the cert not matching the server name or whatever, don't login) public Wifi is just as safe.

2048-bit SSL key encryption with today's technology would probably last beyond the heat death of the universe before it was broken.

When something goes wrong I just call Chase; that doesn't happen all that often either frankly.  Going into a branch is overrated, why do I want to spend all that time?  Another hour of my life wasted, pass... I could be wasting it on this forum instead!  Cat Tongue

As an "old folk" (67) I find this comment highly offensive! Smiley Mad Of course I won't write a check for my burial - I'll put it on a credit card. Smiley Wink Actually as an old folk I love never having to write a check and online banking, both on the PC at home and phone app on the go.

Branches are some of the largest expenses for bank/credit unions and the least cost effective - well except possibly for those $100 million + salaries for CEOs & executives. They can get by with fewer branches, and the smaller branches in grocery stores are a great idea and more cost effective. But for the foreseeable future they'e a necessary evil. For one businesses need them for change orders and cash deposits. The only bank in my small town closed a couple years ago, so now local business owners have to drive 30 miles to the nearest bank branch.

Re: Chase "CHANGE IN SERVICES"

DaveInAZ ... in truth, I was being a smart *** related to check writing! However, your approach to using a credit card for the burial makes sense ... a good rewards card for points! Smiley Embarassed

My niece relocated to the Phoenix AZ area the past few months and now the company she works for is being sold to a firm in Iowa. She likes your part of the world. As for you ... living in the outback? Hmm ... closest bank 30 miles now that could be a challenge back in the day but with the modern world it is usually at best a minor inconvenience for those with transportation.

While I live on the edge of the Superior National Forest we still have some banking (one bank just closed two branches and I suspect there are more to come). Student populations continue to drop so maintaining life style and academic programs is a challenge. In the last two years we lost: Sears, Herbergers, JC Penney, Radio Shack, KMart, Hall Mark, a couple of grocery stores and there were more. Suspect loosing a bank is almost like the loss of the local schools and post office. Smiley Sad Life changes?! Oh, our age affects life style requirements ... I am older than you thus the "Dinosaur" and I am converted to the modern world and love it (write twelve to fifteen checks a year and that is only because our utiltiy provider is NOT modern) ... Grrr!
