Re: How can one get into Navy Federal Credit Union without?

My Dad was in the Army in the late 50's. Not a long stint as a draftee.  Would that qualify me?  Also, I'm not in the market for any credit products and will likely just open a savings to get in.  Does that require a hard pull?

@Trudy  Sounds like you quality to me. It's a SP for membership. You can apply for membership over the telephone. The csr are great and will guide you through the process. Should be a 20 minute conversation. They are open 24/7/365.

Re: How can one get into Navy Federal Credit Union without?

I just called my Pops (85yo) and he doesn't even know what a DD 214 is but recalls he has a "military #" somewhere.  He was drafted and was out a few years later. (drafted the day after marrying my mom, so it's a sore spot and it was the 50's, so....for him Smiley Frustrated)  No negative marks, but did his time and was out.

I think Navy's database can verify your eligibility until you get the DD 214 on hand.

Thanks.  New project; after speaking with my Dad I'm more focused on him gaining access to benefits as a Veteran.  Although 85yo, he's more active and with it than I amSmiley Embarassed  Still jogs around the blocks everyday.  But quite "frugal", so I don't expect any credit apps on his part.

I would say you absolutely qualify, no question. My dad is 79, not a NFCU member, and was in the North Carolina Army National Guard in the 1960s, and I qualified through him. The only concern might be finding paperwork if they were to ever ask for it, but, they probably won't. Good luck!

You can try for the tri-fecta. Navy, USAA and PenFed.

Any particular reason why Navy? Because there are plenty of other CU's out there that are equally consumer friendly with sufficeint products to utilize.

I have yet to find one better than navy. I have quite a few CU accounts and none compare .
