I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, as I didn't even get to the credit card app part of my 2-step plan.
Kinecta FCU has a BT credit card (MyPower) with 2.99% APR for 18 months, 0% balance transfer fee, and generally no fee for anything on that card. A really nice, consumer-friendly card. Kinecta will also pay Innovision Society your membership fee to join, so that was a plus as well.
I decided I'd join first and then move on to the credit card app, so that if they happened to soft pull for membership and decline me, I wouldn't have a hard pull for a credit card app that would never get approved. I'm patting myself on the back as I don't see any inquiries anywhere.
Online app process was very straightforward and took 2 minutes. I was told to wait 1-3 days for processing.
Then comes the bad part. I wasn't notified of anything for 2 weeks, so decided to call. A friendly lady picked up after 15 minutes, and informed me that (1) they usually process membership apps within 24 hours, and that (2) I had been denied because their system was unable to verify my street address. She said I could come into a branch to show my utility bill. I told her I was 8,000 miles away and that it would be nice if I could submit it online. She checked with someone in the back and said unfortunately not. Their policy was that I had to bring the physical proof in person to their staff.
So.. looks like a nice CU for people in southern CA, but maybe not for someone that needs all processes to be online.
