NFCU Documents

So I'm trying to join NFCU, they need some specific document...

Proof of military affiliation... ADS or something?

What's the document called?

What's the EASIEST way to get it?

My Grandfather and my Grandfather by Law we're both military; are either of those family enough to make me eligible?

Both are willing to get me the document but we are unsure HOW and the Easiest process to obtain it...

Thanks everyone!!!

Re: NFCU Documents

Yes, grandfather makes you eligible. You need form DD214, military certificate of discharge.

If grandfather doesn't possess, copy through National Archives. Expect delays with COVID.

Am I Eligible for Membership?

Membership Eligibility

Family Members

We know military families also serve in their own way. Immediate family members include:

  • Parents
  • Grandparents
  • Spouses
  • Siblings
  • Children (including adopted and stepchildren)
  • Grandchildren
  • Household members

Re: NFCU Documents

How are you trying to apply? When i just via telephone they only asked what branch my grandfather was in and when. May try to just give them a call if you tried another way. My grandfather would have provided a copy of his DD 214 if needed but it wasn't.

We also applied over the phone. DH’s dad was in the military. They didn’t ask for any supporting documents.

Re: NFCU Documents

@Anonymous. Great advice from all of the above.

Call in and apply for membership over the phone. CSR will talk you through the process. Should be a 15-20 minute phone conversation. They are open 24/7/365.

Best practice is to obtain the documents for record keeping purposes.

+1 to all answers given.

Re the bolded part, I mailed off my DD214 request just when the pandemic hit. I'm still waiting for a reponse from the Archives people. My grandfather's service was during the period for which most records were destroyed in the big fire.

Re: NFCU Documents

Phone must be different. Cause online it basically says since my grandfather is NOT a member, I have to visit branches and stuff. I'll call.

Yep, definitely try the phone. As I said we applied over the phone using DH's dad as our entry to membership. His dad was not a member.
