NFCU is rough to get into. Their requirements are very strict...My Dad is retired from the service, so thats how I got in. It has to be family that is either currently in the military, or retired. When I applied, they asked me on the phone how I could be a member, and I told them my Dad is retired from the Marines, and Gov. They put me on hold for like 5 min, and came back and told me I was "in". The ran my info, and SSn against the DOD, and it came up a match in their database, to my Dads info. Thats how restricive it can be.
Their were also a few posters who got in, and like months later down the road, NFCU closed all their accts, CC's etc, because they were questioning their eligiblity, and more more proof and documents. You cant fool them, it will come back later and bite ya. So, if your Dad whas retired, then ok, or if you have a close immediate family member currently serving, then ok.
