I think if I join PenFed now I'll get denied for all their products because of pyramiding. I've picked up A LOT of new accounts and new credit lately. But I have to join before my year is up with the Navy League. So I'm wondering if a six month break in apping will be long enough.

That may not be the case. Check the PenFed approval stats thread in the approvals forum. Many people with tons of inquiries and new accounts are getting approved.
Holy Smokes, Batman.
Just applied to PenFed on a whim and was approved for the Cash Rewards card (5% back on gas) with a 14k limit (my highest limit ever) at 13.24% APR.
This despite just applying to NavyFed and just opening (within the last month) half a dozen accounts elsewhere. I need to stay in the garden a loooooong time. But these are incredible credit unions!. Thanks to Captool and to the anonymous contributor who suggested I was eligible for NFCU despite no military connection.

Congrats on the approval... That is a good limit. And yes, that anonymous user must work for Navy Fed or something. They did this one post and then disappeared. Nice to see it is working for people.
Lol not a NFCU employee at all. Just someone that thinks we should all enjoy the membership benefits of NFCU no matter what our background. Honestly I think that the veterans (non active or retired) should be allowed in by default too. But this way will work for everyone.

I have a sponsor, my daughter but don't want to ask. This is a great way to get in on my own! Thanks so much for all the info!
Hey guys I was wondering on the Navy Federal paper application what should I put for Membership Eligibility, Affiliation and Employment Status? So far for Membership Eligibility I put “Association/Community/Company” since I joined the Navy League San Diego Council, for Affiliation I put “Navy” and for Employment Status I put "Employed Outside of the Government" is this sufficient enough or do I need to put something else? Thanks
I wrote "San Diego Navy League" off to the side and didn't check any of the boxes. None of the boxes really apply for this situation.
