Re: Navy Federal CU - The REAL way in for those that dont qualify.

I, too, was able to gain access into NFCU by becoming a member of the Navy League San Diego chapter. A huge thank you to those that shared the information on how to get in and to those who shared their success stories. That gave me the confidence I needed to go through with my app. Now my family and I can enjoy the benefits of a mortgage loan next year, as well as other lending needs!

I heard it from a few others offline.  And had to verify it for myself, and its real.  So here goes.

Not just joining the navy league, but joining the San Diego Chapter of the Navy League makes you eligible for membership into NFCU.  Call for yourselves and verify.  Thanks to the person that passed this info along.

https://join.navyleague.org/wordpress/membership-form/

And just to be clear.....ONLY ONLY ONLY the San Diego Chapter (which anyone, anywhere can join), qualifies you for membership.  Not any other city's chapter.  When signing up for the navy league, you must specify that you want to be added to the SD chapter.  Its $25 to join.  Then you HAVE TO print out the membership app from the NFCU site and hand write it up.  Then you must either fax or email it to NFCU along with your confirmation email from navy league and copies of two forms of ID.  The email address is membershipdocs@navyfederal.org

Takes about a week to process.  You can call for status.

This is what everyone has been waiting for, and it works.  Plus its noble donating to the navy league even if just for that one reason.

Thanks to the person that shared this with my group of friends.

That is all.  Oh and enjoy.

-YoureWelcome

Oh and the obligatory "Your Mileage May Vary", Dont shoot the messenger, use at your own risk, Im not liable for your gains or losses or whatever else.....

So exciting! Thank you so much! Faxing it in and I will keep everyone posted!

Re: Navy Federal CU - The REAL way in for those that dont qualify.

It brings me great joy to think of all the wonderful things that everyone here will be able to achieve in life with being a member of just about the friendliest and most generous CU out there.  Im so glad that people are calling and verifying this works too.  It was my fear that letting this info out, would cause lots of drama.  And by posting your success stories, you wonderful people are helping others as well that might be scared or not believe this works.

And lets NOT forget that by joining the Navy League, you are supporting a very noble group that wants nothing but to support the men and women of the US Navy.  By using monies from membership to celebrate vets coming home, or soldiers on leave.  And also helping families of those that have loved ones in the Navy.  I dont see how anyone looses in this partnership.

So thanks for continuing to post your success stories, and helping others going forward.  I dont and wont post much, but I will be keeping an eye on this thread to help and answer questions if I need.

Also just to be clear, I am not affiliated with either Navy Federal CU or the Navy League.  Just a fellow human wanting the best financial future for my family.  Knowledge is power.  And spreading knowledge like this, empowers others.  "pay it forward".

Re: Navy Federal CU - The REAL way in for those that dont qualify.

That is a big part of why I wanted to join (sent in my application Saturday)...my father, whom I was never very close with, but whom I had much love and respect for, was in the Navy. Between that, and really wanting to only do business with CU's from this point on, got me interested in NFCU.
It's a small thing, but makes me feel closer to my father and his brothers and sisters, in a way.

Guys one thing I want to point out which I think is pretty crazy is when you open an account with a Credit Union they actually check your credit I did not know that today I got an alert through myFico account that a new inquiry was created for Navy Federal through Transunion which boosted my score 19 points!!! Even though I didn't want the inquiry it worked out in my favor which is great! Smiley Happy

1) Congrats on getting in

2) It should be noted that this is VERY common for CU's as you are appplying to become a member/owner, so a very high % of CU's (not all)

will run credit. This is one way CU's try to stay healthy and 'protect' all members by trying to vet 'out' problems prior to 'problems' joining 'our' union.

It also can act as a 'background' and identity vetting process b/c most CU's can't survive a bunch of B.S. so they attempt to 'frisk' folks at the door Smiley Wink

3) Although, you didn't want the HP at this point it's done...you might want to go ahead and app for a product while the HP is 'hot'...

Who knows, youi already said you bounced 19 points, might as well grab a TL while you're at it, and at least let it age...while that HP ages?

Navy is freaking outstanding with approvals and CLI's IMO grab it while the grabbings good the cars have no AF and grow like wildfire.

Good luck and welcome aboard.

Hello everyone!

first of all, thanks to YoureWelcome for the information and everyone else that has posted their feedback on this working.

There is a $25 fee to join the Navy League as is pointed out in the OP. However, that is only for one year. If this membership is not maintained, is there any concern that membership at NFCU could be revoked?

Great question...

Navy like the VAST majority of CU's has a once in, in for life policy (as long as you maintain your membership...that is leave that hidden $5 bucks alone Smiley Wink)

I've only seen very small ultra local CU's that require their members to live in say 'this cul de sac' trip out AFTER a member is a member.

Remember the requirement is for who can JOIN but once in the 'gang' you're in, it's not like they check to see if you're still say active duty or 'married' to the sailor that got you in, right Smiley Wink just jk around ...no matter what your spouse says folks you do not I repeat you do NOT have to 'STAY' married to continue your banking relationship with NFCU......he/she is of no use any more once, you are in Smiley Wink

(P.S. if you are a lousy spouse...maybe don't share this post)

I am not trying to be critical, but normally NFCU pulls TU for membership.  Each credit app will result in an EQ pull.  It doesn't matter if you app now or next year, they will pull your EQ each time.  Sometimes they pull a random CR for membership/app, but they are going to pull.  CLI's may or may not be a HP.  Personally, I don't think HPs are a big deal.

Re: Navy Federal CU - The REAL way in for those that dont qualify.

Hmmm...I sent in my app and docs this past Saturday, the 28th, and recieved the auto-notification email from them.  With the Memorial Day weekend I assumed it might be a little more then the 2 buisness days they said it would take to review and get back to me.

I'm excited and a little impatient....but do you think it's too soon for me to call them up?
