Rent Payment

So to soak up some SUBs Im looking into a way to get around a cash advance. My rent is required to be paid by MONEY ORDER. which we all know would count as a cash advance. Would something like plastiq be useful to get around the cash advance fee? or any other ideas? I dont mind paying a SMALL fee.

Plastiq sends checks not money orders.

But they do have ACH transfers.

Yes, but for Plastiq to pay electronically they will need the bank routing & account number.

Very unusual - and questionably legal - for a landlord to require rent paid by money order.

Eh.  Not anymore.  Once you get burned on a few bad checks, lots of landlords require money orders from everyone...even those who have done nothing wrong.

Re: Rent Payment

I agree something strange.   Given what I know about money order fraud and the time to catch it I would never demand money orders.  The only ones I would take are Postal Money Orders. Even then with reluctance.  Give me 5 minutes and I can whip you up a super duper money order gauranteed to not be returned in less than 4 weeks but also no more than 15 weeks,

Well, it's been many years since I've rented, but that just seems ridiculous to make everyone go through the hassle & expense of getting a money order just because of a few bad apples who can't balance a checkbook.I would tell them: "You know what, I'll just stop by your office and pay the rent in cash", and then show up with the rent money - all in bags & bags of coins.

I have never understood people who say they will do this or actually do it.

First of all you would rather spend more time doing this than just getting the money order, and then the person you hand it to usually isn't the one who makes the policy so you are just making more work for an underpaid peon rather then sending a message to the person in charge.

Also, coins may be legal tender for all debts public and privite that dosen't mean anyone has to accept it.

Well -

1- I'd bet if I if I paid or tried to pay rent in coin once they'd decide they can take my personal check for rent after all

2- The person who makes the policy would certainly be informed

3- They likely would refuse payment in coin. Record them refusing my payment of rent in cash on my phone, and then laugh at them trying to get an eviction order with my video of them refusing my rent payment with legal tender for all debts public and private

Yes he can refuses to accept tender but under most state laws he also lost the right to collect once he refuses payment.

I recall as a child some business refused to accept my fathers check for several thousand dollars in the 1960's.   My father was very well known amd respected business owner.  He was upset and tried to give the guy check or cashiers check. Niether was ok.

My father went to the bank and got several thousand dollars woth of pennies. And next got a ton of grocery bags.  We spent a Saturday  derolling the pennies and putting them into grocery bags. Monday morning my father had his employees dump the  bags of pennies on their counter and left.

Re: Rent Payment

These apartments do money orders from being burned from checks bouncing and and pending transactions on debit cards. Back from an older time they would do debit but the transaction would be pending for 3\4 days and they would come back up as insuffiant funds.
