Collection question

I have a collection on my credit reports, I discovered the collection while I was in the process of obtaining a mortgage.  Once i discovered the collection which was with National Grid and old utitlity account from a rental I own I called National Grid and Paid in full.  I was unaware of pay for delete and just thought it was a debt that I was unaware of and paid it.  It was a complicated situation with the person that was renting from me and the utility was still in my name but the person was paying the account and did so on time every month and when they moved the account was closed for the new renter.  So I never received any bills since the address never forwarded and the lady I spoke with said they attempted a call and did not leave a message since it is a automated system.   Am i stuck with this and my only option is a goodwill or since I paid the OC and not the CA does the CA still have authority to keep this on my report?   It is knocking my credit score down quite a bit I assume and is the only blemish i have except for an old 3 year old 30 day late.  National Grid was pretty rude one time i called .  Made me feel like a real deadbeat hahaha

If you paid it while the collector still had authroity and that is what looks like happened here its going to update to a paid CA and you will need to begin a gw letter campaign asking for removal of the TL. Good luck Smiley Happy

Re: Collection question

A GW request for deletion would go to the debt collector, not the creditor.

Re: Collection question

Okay I have been in contact with the Original creditor and the Collection agency.  Collection agency ( associated credit services inc) said Original creditor ( national Grid) must give autorization for removal from credit report.  National grid shot me down over the phone so i have written good will letter for both companies.  Time will tell I guess.  Thank you all for replying!!!!
