So. I did a shotgun approach to credit card disputes. Regretfully, two went and nearly doubled the amount they claim I owe. I then went online to one credit card and they show a statement showing that I owe the amount that was originally on the credit report and the 2020 credit card statement says $0 charged in interest $0 in fees for all of 2020, yet the balance owed increases monthly. Meanwhile. They have it with a collection agency, both the credit union and the bank deny that it's owned by the collection agency, just that the collection agency is a third party bill collector that collects the money, the original bank states that it's owned by them still. So, if they have statements saying no interest charged then I would think they couldn't just incorrectly charge this. My question is what agencies do I complain to? So far I have already started a Better Business Bureau complaint against the original credit union. Also, since it's already over 5 years old and past the SOL, what percentage would be a reasonable settlement? As I mentioned, the original Experian dispute I did online came back saying I owe the debt and at this larger amount, should I now dispute it withExperian again with my proof or would proving I owe the original amount then restart the SOL? Did I forfeit ability to dispute debt by filing a dispute online?
Are you saying that the debt collector is posting an inaccurate balance under their reported collection?
What debts are these? Are they accounts you defaulted on? Blindly disputing can sometimes make things worse. If these accounts were defaulted on they can and will continue to acrue interest and fees and continue to grow. It sounds like the original creditors possibly sold them to a collection agency.
I dispute due to a timeframe inaccuracy and I truly believed the collection agency had an incorrect amount listed, it's still unclear weather or not it was sold from the original creditor or not, I'm getting different stories from the original creditor and the collection agency, when I asked the collection agency stated they don't own the debt
@House2021 if the bank and credit union say they own it and the debt collector says they don't then that's probably correct. Is there an OC tradeline? If so does it have a balance?
when you say the bank said there was no interest for this year are you possibly talking about interest accruing on the original account? Because once the final amount was charged off that separate amount can accrue interest separately and that's may be what that interest is. Is that possible?
It's possible that when they charged it off the collection agency started charging interest, even though they are still owed the money and will collect the money if I were to pay the collection agency. But seriously, who would believe that it's accruing interest when there are still statement from the original creditor being provided on a monthly basis for $0 in fees, zero in Interest. I'm not that savvy with collections, so had it not been from the statements showing zero interest charged, aI may or may not have believed interest was accruing. I actually feel the OC is partially to blame for still providing statements on this and not updating their own balance, it's extremely confusing.
Might depend on who you pay what the amount is. Either way if the amount is wrong you can dispute it again, but this time provide new information you did not provide in the original dispute so it cannot be summarily dismissed. And preferably send it certified mail return receipt requested with documentary proof of the amount of the bill and dispute it that way and see what happens. That would be my advice and good luck.
Birdman7 thank you I'll try that this week, I appreciate the advice. This is actually the first time I've ever had to do credit disputes so I've been very confused by everything.

@House2021 I recommend that you read the dispute section in the Scoring Primer linked at the top of my signature. There are also some very informative threads linked there and in the post six which is full of references to great threads.
just make sure you do it certified mail return receipt requested and make sure you include documentary evidence. And of course maintain copies and logs. They have 30 days plus another 5 for mail.
