Collections Error

A Collections Agency is reporting to the Bureas an account with my name but a different address and different SSN I filed a dispute but it's been weeks and it's still on my report and I haven't heard anything.

This doesn't appear to be my account (it's an account with Sprint which I did have which did go delinquent however my CR shows a different CA without a different amount with correct SSN and Correct Address for that collections)

So how do I go about this?

Re: Collections Error

Well typically disputes reported with the credit bureaus take up to 30 days to investigate. Even after the 30 days if it's found that what's being reported is not accurate it can take up to another 30 days to actually remove it and possibly another 15-30 days before it reflects on your credit report.

But please clarify the second part of your post. I understand that there is a Sprint account being reported with your name but a different address and different social. You did have a Sprint account which went deliquent, I am assuming this account did go to collections but a different collection agency than the one being reported on your credit report with the wrong address and social and the amount listed is different than the actual amount you owe is this correct?

Re: Collections Error

The only way I can explain part B is that I think my information was mixed with someone else's at least that's what the CRA's told me.

I think someone with a similar or even same first and last name in another state went delinquent and for some reason maybe because I already had a delinquent account with sprint it was attributed to me because the address provided (they didn't tell me city or state on the numbers and street name) I have never lived at or hear as of same with the last 4 of the SSN which isn't even close to my last 4.

The CRA's said they also put a fraud alert on my CR so no anytime I apply for anything they need to ask me additional security questions.
