DOFD question

From reading other threads I found out that Providian Financial doesn't exist anymore but they are showing up on my credit report with status: paid, closed/acct charged off. $833.00 written off.

My question is regarding the DOFD. I will search the threads for more info but if they are reporting the charge off as of October 2002 shouldn't this drop off my report? What should I do if that is the case?

The other problem with this is that I know I paid this off way back in those days - they put me on a payment plan and were deducting monthly a set amount for about 8 months. Well the rep that helped me screwed up big time because I didn't know that I was making the payments a day after the day they were due so every month I thought I was paying them and reducing the debt but they were tacking on late and overlimit fees. By the end of my payments, i got another letter that said I owed them the $500 and change all over again! I don't even know where to begin looking for those records and I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any idea what i can do here?

Thanks.

Re: DOFD question

DOFD = date of first default!   Once the OC reports CO   nothing can change the CRTP!  7-7.5 years from DOFD

DOLA = last activity.......when you made your last payment  before or after CRTP starts.
Most states set their SOL by this.    If at any time you make a payment it may reset your SOL!

Look at the reporting by the OC   it should have something like  * will remain on your CR until  month/year.

Re: DOFD question

no such date on my EX cr. It only appears on experian. Should I call the OC or contact the CRA to get them to validate?

Re: DOFD question

So it is only a CA reporting?

If it was COd in Oct.2002      the DOFD would be before that.

You can call EX and ask for the drop date!!   I would do that before anything else.

Do you have any idea when you stopped paying?

The drop date only shows on your CR  not a CR by a monitoring service.

Duty to Report Dates of Delinquencies
If a furnisher reports information concerning a delinquent account placed for collection,
charged to profit or loss, or subject to any similar action, the furnisher must, within 90 days after
reporting the information, provide the CRA with the month and the year of the commencement
