Hi guys!
I refreshed my credit report yesterday and there it was! A collections from ERC. I immediately contacted Comcast and paid them. I then called Experian and disputed the collection. Went online and dispute Equifax.
I think contacted Comcast again via chat and was told it would be removed once the payment cleared.
Do you think this is true? Or should I have negotiated something with Comcast first? A guarantee that they would remove it? Based on my research on these forums it looks like most people have had success getting it removed by paying the original creditor.
****TU and EX have removed the collection!!!
What a relief.
Welcome @Anonymous
You already contacted them first I think as you said in your first paragraph. So you got a good shot since you caught it early. Could be Comcrap (used to be a customer) still owned it and ERC was not the owner completely of the debt and was collecting on their behalf. Good Luck. Keep us updated please for future reference.

I had the same exact collection from ERC on my report, was the last one I had. I chatted with comcast and they guaranteed me they would remove it from my reports within 30 days, and so I paid it directly to them. And they held up there bargain. Just save your chat transcripts in case you have to fight it. Good luck!
So I talked to another specialist today as well. She assured me that it would fall off and that she sent in a request to ERC to have it removed.
What's striking to me is that they still have the ability to collect the debt. If they truly sold it how would they be able to collect on it? They must have worked out some sort of arrangement with ERC.
Yes, I called the same day it showed up on my credit report. I've been monitoring my credit every single day now for quite some time as I am finally getting to a point of no derogs, etc.
I have 2 30-60 day negatives from Navient that are supposed to fall off in Oct of 2020. I called Experian to see if they would remove them now and they said no.
I really hope so. I chatted with a rep from Comcrap this morning and they said the following:
Good job! I have to admit i was surprised they did it for me but apparently they are one of the ones that will. I believe ERC just does the collections for them, not actually own the debt. From what I gathered anyways.
I will keep you posted for sure!
Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you! I am still really nervous because you never really know about these things. Hopefully my credit report will update soon!
Did it take about 30 days before it fell off?
