Man, I've had a stressful morning today! I woke up to my discover card being $1.39 over limit due to a unauthorized apple charge of $79.99. I got charged for a subscription that I had cancelled well before the 3 month trial ended. The charge is still pending but my available balance is -1.
I called apple immediately once their phone lines opened at 8am about the charge and they admitted their mistake and said the charge would be reversed. I just got off the phone with discover and the lady downplayed everything. She told me not to stress it. She said my account has been in good standing for 6 months and that I'm already qualified for graduation next week. She said this 7th statement has no bearing on the graduation decision and that it's simply a waiting period. Another good thing is I had already submitted a payment last night which she said will post after midnight tonight so it will clear any negative balance even if the unauthorized charge posts tonight. She said they can't do a chargeback until it posts but I already got apple to issue a refund.
I can't believe this happened the same week my 7th statement ends. I've done everything possible to stay in good standing. I'm honestly disappointed in discover for even allowing apple to overdraw my account. Normally the transaction should've been declined. I'm not sure what happened on their end. The lady said apple possibly charged only $1 first to get authorization and then added the rest afterwards once approved. That's a pretty slimey tactic on their part if true. She said the charge took place on Saturday Oct 1st but it was the weekend hence why the charge only showed up on my account this morning.
I'm glad that this won't have the impact I feared it would. From now on I won't have my credit cards stored anywhere because clearly you can't trust these companies. All subscriptions will be made through my debit card moving forward. I can't have this happen again. Unreal.
Once you graduate you will more than likely to get a
$1800 limit and this shouldn't be an issue going forward. Don't lose out on rewards by using your debit card. Just keep your utilization low and it will all work out.
At least I got some good news today. I'm officially a penfed member!

You're on a roll brother keep it going!!!
@RobynJ my issue is I shouldn't have been charged at all. I got the confirmation email the subscription was cancelled a month ago and yet still got charged today. I've done everything the right way so it's really disheartening to say the least. I'm just glad it won't have a negative impact as I thought the worst.
My statement ends on Sunday so on Monday next week I should get the graduation email. I'll be waiting for it.
My discover payment posted today while the unauthorized charge is still pending. I spoke with discover just now and was told my statement won't show over limit since my payment posted before the charge. Apparently I was never officially over limit in their eyes. When I said I was over limit I was going by my available balance which was -1 but my card balance was still under limit since it doesn't change until a transaction posts. I'm hoping the charge doesn't post at all since apple reversed it. I'm assuming it'll just drop off after some time. In the end it seems like it all worked out. I haven't stressed over something like I did yesterday in a very long time. This just goes to show things can happen out of your control which is scary to say the least. I removed my credit card from apple altogether and will be using my debit card instead. I don't trust apple whatsoever after this.
I have set up my PenFed online account and deposited $700 into my savings. Does anyone know if PenFed takes relationship status into consideration on loan apps? Or do they only care about your credit file? I'm curious if making regular deposits will help my status with them?
I have had 0 luck with Penfed with loans as of yet. They have a soft pull pre approval though which is nice. They said I have too many new accounts in the last 24 months. Score they pulled was 808 EQ FICO 9
@RobynJ yeah I heard new accounts and inquiries are big with them. That's why I'm gonna wait to reach 12 months age (April 2023) on all my accounts and inquiries and apply then. I only have 1 inquiry on my EQ. In that 6 months time I'm going to be building my savings account with regular deposits. It's very tempting to open new accounts but I'm thinking big picture.
Didn't you get approved for a card with PenFed? Or was that a different CU?

No I got approved at Navy FCU.
@SuperFlyEDSguy @MarkyB I made TD my main bank in May. I had been using DCU for years. Checking, savings and a secured Visa. Hopefully I have a smooth ride with them. One benefit I've found is there are plenty of branches around me.
