I actually posted on this earlier today, I got nowhere with the PFD from Midland. I was told flat out that they won't do pfds and they will not accept my Counter Offer of $150 (the offered me 233 41.
I may just let it drop off my report, or wait a little longer, when they will lose their leverage. And even if they don't accept that, I will still pay the $233.41.As you mentioned lavencedora, the amount is small enough and it is financially manageable, but I was hoping for the deletion, I will see what happens, and keep you updated, for sure.
Thanks,
@lavencedora wrote:Hmmm . . . I don't know if I fully agree that it's the "right thing to do." I like your .pfd. Despite the fact it is your legitimate debt, the company who you had that debt with has received pretty much full compensation by taking a loss and reducing their tax obligation, then additional compensation by selling your debt to a collector. This collector has paid pennies on the dollar and you owe THEM nothing.
My perspective is, it's the right thing to do when it's the original creditor, it's the expedient thing to do when it's a CA. I also believe that these CAs are encouraged to engage in some pretty dispicable practices by getting the full face value on these "junk debt" purchases. This is all just my particular feeling/philosophy. Your debt is small enough, you can probably pay 50% or 100% with equal ease. I'd definitely let them respond to your pfd before offering the additional amount. Ultimately, do what works. The cleared credit is worth every penny, even if it's the full amount.
Luck to you!
Oh, whoops! Sorry ... this thread was long enough that I ended up reading the begining and the end, but not much of the in between. I know what you mean, I'm so eager to see those deletes ... finally saw my Midland deleted today (due to improper reporting). I'm shocked they didn't accept your counter, since the only leverage they have is to screw with your credit. I don't know how long until it drops off -- if you can hold off, do it. If not, hey, the debt is minimal the delete is well worth it. You are the best person to gauge. Definitely keep us updated! :-)

This debt is due to drop off on 6/2014. I can definitely wait it out. I am not planning on applying for anything until this drops off. I was shocked at their refusal too. I honestly figured this would work and since they only have another 6 months of reporting to be done, I know I would accept it in their position. :-)
But will see what happens
Yes, I would be shocked, too. It's almost off, you'd think they'd just take it off a little early. But it's the only last little bit of leverage they have & they are going to use it. Oh well, sound like you are in good shape to just hang in there until it's gone. That's a good thing. Midland really sucks.
