I posted this earler but have more questions
My wife got a collection settlement in the mail from AFNI. Its over an old AT&T bill for $339. They want to settle for 70%. I know we dont owe this, it was over a dishnetwork cable box that we sent back. Anyways I try to do a PFD, they wont do it. So I call AT&T to see whats its about, They cant figure it out either. So i went ahead and paid AT&T direct. They said they will contacr AFNI and have them remove it off her CR etc. My question is since I didnt pay AFNI can they still report it on her CR as paid in full and not delete it? I have an email from AT&T showing its been paid. AFNI said AT&T would not even talk to me about this and that they would transfer me back them bla bla bla. So they must of never sold the det to AFNI right? Should I call them and tell them to remove it and pound sand? Thanks for any advice given.

Yes. At&t can ask them to delete they don't have to. Simply update to show $0 bal. If at&t recalled the debt from them then AFNI must delete their trade line. That wasn't the case in this situation.

I called AT&T and paid them, not AFNI. If they sold the det to AFNI would AT&T still beable to take the payment?

No. Not legally.
