Hello all, I contacted Self Lender... They said they cannot remove late payments because they do not give a grace period, but the circumstances were hard. Does anyone know the email for the higher-ups? If something can be done, I will appreciate it.
You had a late payment on a "credit builder" account?
You were late on a CREDIT BUILDER account...
And you think "circumstances were hard" is something credit builder accounts are going to take into consideration (They've heard that before, is what I'm getting at.)
Self does no hard pulls, and they report faithfully every month to all 3 bureaus. That's their promise, and that's what they do. I've used Self before, I don't hate them. I tend to not recommend them, but I don't hate them. Most people would do better just getting a secured card and using it at the gas pump only. Self loans are high interest, but they are lower interest than carrying a balance on almost any credit card.
Here's what they do for people who can't get anything else but them... or people who won't get a secured credit card. They keep their word about no hard pulls and a 3 bureau monthly reporting (even though it would be cheaper for them to only report to 1 bureau. Pay the loan off in good standing and you have an installment loan in your credit mix for a full decade after it is closed. Your missed payment will fall off your report in 7 years from now.
You aren't going to get that late payment removed. Get current, and stay current, and let the rest of your payments start to show your change of pattern. A pattern that led you to have to resort to Self in the first place.
Self is an end-of-your-rope place of last resort. When you are at the end of the rope, you tie a knot and hang on. You don't just let go but expect there to be more rope waiting for you.
Sounds like they give you the rope to hang yourself.
