Sent DV and no response. Now another is collecting for same.

Hello,

I have an account listed on my CR that I do not believe is mine. It went to collections and I submitted a DV letter to them. They have not responded yet. It has been about 45 days. Last night I got a Scorewatch alert that a new Inquiry has been placed on my account from a law firm. Today I get a letter from that law firm that they are now attempting to collect the same debt. The OC is still reporting that I owe them, the other CA is still showing AND this new CA is now too. What should I do? Should I DV the law firm that is trying to collect now?

Thanks in Advance

Definitely DV the new one so that it is timely.  If the OC is reporting a balance, it should mean they still own the debt and the new CA is attempting to collect for them.  I would contact the OC to verify.  If they sold the debt and/or charged it off, they should be reporting a zero balance.

As for the previous CA, I would call them as well.  It could be that they have requested their TL be removed, and it just hasn't happened yet.  Normally I think most would not recommend calling a CA, but if they no longer have collection authority, I would call and verify they've requested deletion of the trade line.

I don't know my start scores, but low 500s. 6/2013
