Back in March, I had a Sprint collection on my CRs from 2012 for an early termination fee ($303). Two problems: first off, I had two third-party collectors reporting on it: Diversified Consultants, and Enhanced Recovery Co.
First thing I did was to dispute the duplicate (it was Diversified Consultants), and the CB's promptly removed that one. My FAKO (which is all I was monitoring at the time--through CapOne) jumped 17 pts after this dropped off.
That was great, but I still had Enhanced Recovery to deal with. Important to note that the OC has *not* been reporting this delinquency themselves on my CR, only the third-party CA.
I contacted Sprint directly and asked that if I paid them directly, could they recall the account from Enhanced Recovery. They verbally agreed they would, but would not agree to confirm in writing. I went ahead and PIF the OC, then immediately afterward filed a dispute with the CBs that were reporting this. In the dispute comments, I specified that OC had been PIF on X date and had verbally agreed to recall account from 3rd party CA. This collection has now been COMPLETELY REMOVED from all my reports. Happy dancing for that success!!

Good you got it taken care of but you should not have filed the dispute with the CRAs these guys have agreements to not delete valid credit info just because its been paid, the next person to come along may have a harder time if the creditor takes heat from the CRAs for agreeing to a PFD.
I understand - thank you. What's a reasonable amount of time to expect these things to drop off on their own?

What they usually do is update to a paid account first then submit the deletion request and if its done manually the whole process can take up to the 60 days. If they are using the electronic E-oscar system then it can be cut down considerably.

I have a sprint collection also. It's listed under diversified consultants. I wonder if I could call sprint to have them pull it back and I would just pif with them. It's almost at its seven year mark will drop off in September but would like to have it gone now.
Doesnt hurt to try. You can also ask for the early exclusion 6 months in advance of its scheduled drop date on TU and 2-3 months in advance with the other 2 CRAs. You can ask for it by mail or calling the CRA.
