"PFD" Didn't work... Verify?

Couple months ago, I basically sent a pretty good "PFD" letter to a couple collection agencies.... Didn't work. On the letter I also put if they can not do that, I would like them to verify the debt is mine, etc.

They did not....

Should I send a letter demanding them to verify all the info, or should I avoid that? I don't want to get into hot water, but I also want them REMOVED from my credit report.

Any tips, ideas, etc?

Re: "PFD" Didn't work... Verify?

A few points...

First, requests for DV do not impose a requirement to verify the debt, they impose a cease collection bar on the debt collector, which remains in effect until such time as they choose to provide the requested verification.  Thus, if they choose to cease active collection, they have no requirment or period to respond.

DV requests only impose a cease collection bar if they are timely, meaing they are sent within 30 days after receipt of dunning notice, or without having received dunning notice.  Was your DV timely?

Second, verification only requires their investigation and finding that they have determined the debt to be valid,  Verificatin does not require them to verify or prove every item of information you may request.

Third, your alternate form of "if" request is a bit confusing.  You either send a clear request for verifcation/cessation of collection, or you dont.

If you request verification, that prevents them from any collection activities, including negotiation of terms other than a simple payment in full.
