trying to get my scores up!

My credit scores a few months ago were in the low 500's. Since then I paid off 2 first premiere cards, got a fingerhut card with a 600 limit, my F.P. cards were 300 each. I had like 15 hard inquiries, just got a merrick bank card with a 500 limit. Credit Karma up to 635, equifax 610, and Experian 665. I have alot of old negatives from over 6 yrs ago and a hospital bill for 1700. on my report still. I have since hired lexington law to deal with negatives. 2 months in and nothing removed yet. They told me I need more positive accounts so I did shopping cart trick n got 5 new accounts, but my scores took a little dip. Is this dip just short term and after good payments on my 9 accounts now it will rebound. Am I moving in the right direction?

9 revolving accounts is too many. You only really need 3-5 accounts, but you need to GROW them.

Kick LL to the curb, they gave you bad advice and they aren't doing anything you can't do your self unless you are working 100 hours a week.

Re: trying to get my scores up!

You can never have to much credit as long as you manage it properly.. If you have 9 credit cards and pay the balances properly and use the cards properly then it will help your score.

There are some people that have 20+ cards.. As long as you use them properly and pay them right. It's never a bad thing.

Is it better to have 0 balances or is it better to use them. Mt utilization is 13%, but I just paid another card off so now it's probably 6%. I just want one more card like a cap one or a amex, or something. I have all crappy cards, but they did raise my score alot.

Re: trying to get my scores up!

And I have to many inquiries. I figure just pay my bills perfect for a year. No more inquiries, and by next Christmas I should be able to get a good card. I know lexington is expensive, and I should be able to do what there doing, but do they work? I have a few bad negatives that are turning 7 yrs early in 2015. Will they fall off my report?

Re: trying to get my scores up!

From what I've read is that even if they are successful in removing they do so by disputing items and that can result in the items coming back.
Not too sure about this.
I think there is also an option for early deletion of things but I am not sure what that applies to. If it's early 2015 you might be able to do that?
Additionally if the items are paid you could look into good willing them because companies might be more lenient if they are set to fall off soon anyway. As far as I know Lexington law will not goodwill because they are not allowed to contact creditors for you. So any options of paying for delete or good willing is out with them. They end up disputing

This is based on what I've read. I'm new to this and someone experienced will confirm.

1. Get rid of LL. Everything they do, you can do. They even pull your credit report from annualcreditreport.com which you are entitled to do once every year.

2. Those delinquent accounts are tanking your credit once you remove them, you will see a substancial increase in your credit score but dont settle for paid or paid as agreed. Your primary focus should be deletions. If fact when you agree to pay your debt tell them a deletion is  part of the bargain.

3. You have too much of the same line of credit. You dont need 9 of the same accounts you need a mix. Cut some of those cards.

4. If those accts are over 7yrs you can contact the three bureaus individually and ask them to delete them from your report.

Re: trying to get my scores up!

Will it hurt my score if I close let's say 2 of those accounts. My hospital bill is my main concern. I owe 1700 and they would settle for 500, but they won't remove it. They would put settled in full. Won't be deleted until 2018. Everything else falling off in the first 3 months of 15.

I know you can safely close 1 without hurting your score.

Just carry low balances and you should be ok

I cleaned up my credit myself and never paid more than 40% on each acct. Now I had some companies that would only put paid or paid in full. I called them and spoke to their supervisors and explained that I was looking at filing bancruptcy as I had 20k worth of debt and I was told by a firm that I could wipe out all of my debt with $1500. I told them I was seriously considering it esp since I had lost my job but was willing to use my savings to pay debts. However, deletions were non negotiatible. Now, this motivated some but I still had a few that were stubborn. So I sent certiifed letters demanding deleteions. If that didnt work I wrote all three bureaus stating that those accts had been settled but they were still reporting on my credit. Eventually they were all deleted. I had something over 20 accts reportings on my reports. Thats what worked for me but Im no expert.
