HIPAA Clarification

My husband has 4 medical collections that date back to 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2007.  The collection for 2007 which was for $35 has been paid.  The collection from 2001 ($15) and 2003 ($243) are from the same OC and were sent to a CA that shows a report date of 2006.  The 2004 medical collection wasn't reported until 2006 also. I have already opted out, so do we begin the HIPAA letter process with all 4 medical collections or just with the ones that haven't been paid?

Is the 7 year mark from the date of service or the date reported?

The 7 year mark is from the date of service. Are you sure the med collection from 2001 isn't past the 7 years?

Re: HIPAA Clarification

I was given a 08/21/01 date of service..so it would be past the 7 year mark as of 08/21/08

Re: HIPAA Clarification

I would leave this med collection alone because its going be gone in less than four months. I would use the HIPAA process on the other three med collections though.

OK...Thanks...It's okay for us to start the HIPAA process on the paid collection as well?

Re: HIPAA Clarification

Yes, on the paid collection. If you can afford to pay the unpaid collections, use HIPAA too.
