NCO Collection - Nothing In Writing on CR - What Steps

I have a medical collection on my report from NCO.  I have already gotten the HIPPA information under medical collection, however I have a question collections in general.  I have received phone calls from NCO but nothing in writing. After the collection posted I called them directly. The wonderful representative was more than happy to disclose verbally the collection information, however I advise I was not aware of the debt & wanted information in writing. She continued to have a verbal battle with me, and then said, "fine we will send information." That was over 3 weeks ago.

Not sure what my options are since I never received anything via mail, however I will concede have received multiple VMs from NCO. Do collection agencies have to send debt info via writing prior to placing on a credit report?  Do i have any valid dispute options?

The CA must send you written confirmation of the debt (i.e., dunning letter) within 5 days of first collection activity, such as a phone call or placing a listing on your credit report.  You never, ever, ever, ever, want to talk to a CA on the phone, everything in writing.

So the CAs called you a few times and THEN placed the a/c on your CBRs and you still haven't received anything in writing from them? Obviously you did not get a dunning letter.

IMO, the CAs do not have to inform via writing you before placing the a/c on your credit files. Now, they may have toafter placing it on your files for an adverse action but I am not sure and am looking into that one.

How old is the debt? Does the OC have your correct mailing address and did the CA pull your reports (hard or soft) before reporting?
