The advice offered in this thread was very helpful. I know basically nothing about screens, and was just too much to read up and research to replace a display. Fortunately, with the rebate, I was able to replace the screen within range of what I had wanted spend.
Yeah, those speakers seem more like an ornamentation than for sound quality. LOL
I know you already purchased, but in case you want to change your mind...
The Acer s240hlbd is the best budget 24" monitor I've ever purchased. I work in IT and bought about 100 of these guys over the last two years. Everyone loves them, and not a single one has had a hardware failure.

@Anonymous wrote:IMHO, DVI with the white connector is superior to the VGA with the blue connector, mainly because the VGA is analog and the dvi is digital. Less problems with color distortions, etc.
Umm, colour is not the difference with DVI. DVI is superior, and that's not an opinion. But noise/ghosting/pixel alignment are the issues with analog... not colour.
P.S. to the person who said HDMI is replacing DVI, it isn't. HDMI is basically the same as DVI but with audio (there are other differences, but they're too detailed to get into here). HDMI is for televisions. DisplayPort is replacing DVI for computers, but it's a long road.
Actually HDMI 2.0 is superior to DVI Dual Link. But HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort are far beyond the budget being discussed here

You know, I likely would have just taken your recommendation, had I read this earlier. Thanks, all the same!
