Moving...

Hey guys, I'm from CA and I plan to move to LV... Unfortunately, I'm at the age where I'm capable of taking care of myself but at the same time still deal with the anxiety of life. But anyway, some things happen within the family which gave me no choice but to hit the streets with no where nor no person to run to. I decided to just change everything and transfer my job and move everything there.

I just wanted to know I know a lot of people say to not leave valuables in the car, but I want to be able to bring stuff with me like ps4, rice, shampoo and conditioner, desktop etc. What do you guys recommend when moving? What auto transporter do you guys recommend? I've never done anything like this before lol Thanks.

A U-Haul and a couple of friends that owe you.

Or a U-Haul and do it yourself.

The set up is pretty easy, you go on to the U-Haul web site and reserve a truck.  As part of that process there is a checkbox about needing to tow your car; the cost is typically about $100 extra, well worth the additional money.

Once reserved:

  • On the appointed day you drive to U-Haul, they will already have the truck and trailer ready for you, they extend the ramps, you drive it up, and they lock it down for you.
  • Make your trip, keep things slow and steady, I recommend against any speeds over 65, even if the local speed limits allow it.
  • When you get to your destination you can unlatch your car, extend the ramps, and roll it off.
  • Once the car is off the trailer you have two options
    • Drop the trailer (hand crank tongue jack to lift off the hitch, remove the tethering, and detach the lighting), unload, and then reattach the trailer.
    • Drive the trailer to your (new) local U-Haul dealer and return just the trailer, drive back to your new home, unload, and then return the truck.

Re: Moving...

I moved states last year and had to update my address with all my banks, credit cards, and insurance. Forgot one card and it caused a verification headache later.

No, the rear of the truck was loaded with five bicycles, a number of potted plants, including indoor trees, and additional stuff which took up lots of space, but wasn't at all heavy.  If I recall correctly, the truck had some squat when it was empty; once loaded, the squat was more pronounced, and when I rolled the Tacoma up onto the trailer, the rear got even lower.  The good news is the truck handled the weight and the 600+ mile journey, including driving through the Poconos, quite comfortably.
