This new site reminds me of a retail trick.  Remember when those little gas stations were once called convenience stores?  Then they brought about the powerball lottery and scratch offs and sometimes you're there for 10 minutes just for a soda.

Ever wondered why the grocery store puts the milk and beer at the back or furtherthest end from the entrance?  You might see something else walking around the whole store.

The old site was way more easy to get in an get out, whereas this new format keeps you here longer.

Are you sure of that? Smiley Very Happy

Re: New Forums Experience Coming Soon!

It looks like clicking on a thread title now takes us to the first unread post in the topic, which is something that's never happened before. Is that correct? It's hard to tell because of the lack of "new" indicators on new posts.

Hi @HeavenOhio, that's because you have 'Jump to first unread post in a topic' selected under 'Linear layout'... if you want opening a thread to default to the first post/page you can un-check the box.

If you want to tell 'at a glance' if a thread has new posts look at the number of replies on the thread listing... if it's light blue there are unread posts, if it's black you've read all the post.

Hope this helps!

Not really.... for those of us who are colorblind!

I certainly can't speak for anyone else on this, but I can't tell the difference between whatever colors are nominally "read" vs "unread".

(WCAG 1.0 Guideline 2: Don’t rely on color alone)

Not only that, but the previous setup showed HOW MANY new, unread posts were in the thread.  That function appears to be completely gone everywhere except "My Subscriptions", which is now missing from the main index, although still (accidentally?) visible on the sub-index pages.

And the new "Notification feed"? Useless - it appears to jump to the LAST message in a thread, rather than the LAST UNREAD message.

Not trying to be hyperbolic here, and I've been trying to continue participating since the change, but this is next to unusable.

(To be completely fair - I have found one feature is much improved!  The HTML view in the message editor does a much better job of formatting/pretty printing the HTML vs the old editor.)

I was offering a possible solution to one member that may (or may not) apply to others.

You make good points, and your concerns closely mirror the concerns many others have already stated in this thread and others.

As Irish80 pointed out earlier FICO is aware of the feedback and is actively working on solution(s).

Re: New Forums Experience Coming Soon!

Well, there's no REPLY button to answer members who are PM'ing me. In fact, if their PM is too long OR they use the QUOTE first, i can't even click the read the PM.

I apologize to them that i have to send a new PM to them just to answer. Arggggg.

This is the weirdest experience of any board i seen yet and i am at a loss why this particular purchase was selected for a public forum that inhibits desktop viewing users-options ?????

Re: New Forums Experience Coming Soon!

Even though I have the option checked to view last unread post on a thread, it jumps me to the end.  Is anyone else having this problem?

A good example of a forum that has white background also but is very usable because of a logical and very neat layout is the wdwmagic disney forums. I think that white backgrounds is not optimal, but with a logical thread layout and very distinct reply indicators, it can work.

Re: New Forums Experience Coming Soon!

One thing, oddly, that I miss is the seemingly inconsequential post count next to a member's avatar. It just felt more like a sociable, people-oriented community when you could see how much each person posted. That way if there was a strange post, I could glance at their name and see, "Oh, first post.. makes sense." Or look at some Super Contributor and marvel that they made 57000 posts since joining.

Edit.. on another note, since logging in about 5 minutes ago, my iMac widescreen is starting to seem pretty blindingly white. I am actually squinting and trying to hurry to finish typing my post so I can close the tab.

That is a nice looking forum, much easier on the eyes. This is for several reasons - one, the font is not a harsh large black like this forum's. It's a lighter, thinner, less harsh one. Another reason is they don't use pure white like MyFICO. It's very subtle, but beneath the posts the color is actually a very light grey / blue. Screenshot:
