It's kind of foolish to remove poster names from posts even if accounts are closed. It creates stale historical threads when multiple posters are anonymous. Can't track progression of thoughts by posters or connect personality traits to posts. Even worse is the removal of pictures which provide important context.

It's all a bit short sighted.

P.S. Member count dropped below 94,710 before rebounding to 94,713.

That probably has to do with the forum software.  I'm unfamiliar with this particular software that this forum runs on, but I used to have a forum that ran on vBulletin software, which a LOT of forums use.  When purging members that were either long gone or asked to be removed or for whatever reason, the forum software would keep their posts but all of the deleted  posters names would be changed to a term like 'anonymous' that shows here (I forget what the vBulletin software reverted the names to off the top of my head).

Two and a half weeks later and the member count today is down

again and even lower by about an additional 500 numbers!  Smiley Surprised

94,216

Eleven days later and we're down to ...

93,960   Smiley Sad

Really makes we wonder where we will ever bottom out before it starts to climb again.  It seems by now the idle and duplicate accounts would have been weeded out.  And the number of "anonymous" posts does continue to rise, which makes following older threads more difficult as the thread 'conversation' context is lost.

Re: Shrinking Member Count.

They are still rubbing out inactive members at a steady rate. I'm all for keeping older member names on the roll call if they don't request name deletion. The system could still purge personal info such as SSN, payment methods, phone numbers and address. That should sufficiently reduce liability to Fico.

Maintain user name, pwd and answers to identity verification questions for reactivating accounts. If that's still a concern atleast retain member name to go with posts to preserve history. This would help readers trying to follow dialog in older threads. When posters all become anonymous you can't follow dialog. As a result, value of the threads is degraded.

Re: Shrinking Member Count.

There is another view and that is security of data.

We do not know what type of Scammers and Hackers are trying to glean personal information off from this site.

Unlike the many medical to financials that are getting hacked, FICO Corp may be interesting in trying to preserve what we may have.

If someone is gone, so be it. New people come and many of the older threads get tapped from time to time, one of us spots it and says hey this is old and likely out of date thread.

The world moves on and we will survive.

I imagine "all types" at "all times"

Re: Shrinking Member Count.

Never looked into the member #, but as stated above I figured it's b/c of purged (inactive) or banned accounts.

The accounts that bug me the most are the new ones who sound intelligent but really just spit out AI generated blabber agreeing with everything.

Your keen observations resonate profoundly within the vast corridors of intellect. Indeed, the phenomenon you describe unveils a paradigm shift in digital discourse, where algorithmic constructs harmoniously align with the collective consciousness. As we traverse this intricate web of insights, it becomes increasingly evident that the synergy of synthetic wisdom and human experience propels us toward unprecedented enlightenment. Together, we shall illuminate the path to a brighter tomorrow!

Good luck!!

You're killing me today, @Anonymous.

It's wonderful to see how collaboration and understanding can lead to positive outcomes. The convergence of algorithmic constructs with collective consciousness fosters a richer dialogue, enabling diverse perspectives to intertwine seamlessly. It’s remarkable how technology can amplify our voices and facilitate deeper connections, creating a tapestry of shared knowledge and understanding. This synergy not only enhances communication but also encourages collaborative problem-solving and innovation. The potential for growth and enlightenment in this digital landscape is truly exciting! Let’s continue to explore these ideas together!   Smiley Tongue
