Worried about my kitty! Entropian Surgery!

My little guy is due to have entropian surgery next month!   His little eyelashes are turning inward on his left eye, causing major eye irritation. 

Has anyone here experienced this?  It seems to be more common in dogs, but higher in pedigree cats.  The cost appears to be a reasonable $535, I was expecting a lot more.

He's 11 years old, of course, he will have pre-anesthetic testing before surgery.  He's never had any issues, but I'm worried about him!  I'd like to hear your experiences if this is a procedure you're familiar with!

My female is going in for a tooth extraction and dental clean/polish after him.  I feel like I have a child going under the knife.

Has it not bothered him all this time, is something all of sudden wrong?  If the poor kitty is in pain from it, I can't imagine a reason not to do it...I can't imagine how painful it would be to have your eyelashes scratching your corneas.  Yes, there is a risk to any surgery, but the vets would have assessed that risk to how much the animal needs it.  I know what you mean, I get so stressed out when one of mine (pugs) is sick, its probably a good thing I didn't have children!

One of my pugs had it done, but before I got her.  She was a rescue from Mexico, covered in Mange, eyelashes scratching.  She does have scarring from the eyelashes, not the surgery.  She is fine.  She is the white one on my avitar.  Love her to death, Pearl.

Definitely more common in dogs, but overall it's a common enough surgery that you most likely don't have anything to worry about. Get your kitty taken care of and be at ease.

Kindest wishes to you and your kitty.  It is a good thing you are doing, helping your companion to end their discomfort and pain.  May all be well for both of you :-)
