Can one spouse's student loans be deferred when the other is still in college?

My husband graduated in May. He will have to begin making payments on his student loans in November. I am still in school and likely will be through summer 09.'

No.  Your student loans don't have anything to do with each other.  His loans would be able to be deferred if he went back to school full time, and he could also get some kind of forbearance.  His loans have nothing to do with how long you're in school, just how long he's in school.

Like the poster above said, you cant get an "in school" deferment if someone else is in school.  However you could easily apply for other deferments such as economic hardship.  Avoid forebearances if you have subsidized loans.
