Income-Based, Sensitive, or Contingent Repayment Question

Is the spouse's salary considered income for these payment plans, or is it dependent on the lender?

I think I read somewhere that for one of the plans, the spouse's income can only be excluded if the couple files married, filing seperately, so my wife and I might want to consider filing that way, but I am not sure if we'd lose a significant portion of our refund if we did.

Hey Mike,

Here's a great site with info about the IBR plan, I think it should have the answer to your question: http://www.ibrinfo.org/

Hope that helps!

Poking around that web site, it appears the proposed rules will be harsh for married couples:
